It was dark. She could barely see the river beneath her as she climbed over the railing.
“What are you doing?” she heard a voice whisper from behind.
Slowly turning her head backwards, she came face to face with a boy. The blonde haired boy she’s seen before. The lip ring boy she’s seen somewhere in the hallways.
“What are you doing Felicity?” he repeated, adding her name.
“What does it look like?” Felicity asked him, not knowing his name.
“Don’t,” he replied, “don't do it.”
“Why should I listen to you? I don’t even know your name, you don't know me, and you wouldn’t care even if I jump,” Felicity protested, the crackles in her voice being evidence that in fact, she was crying. But Felicity didn’t care anymore.
“Your parents care, your friends care. I care,” he whispered.
“Why do we try so hard to meet other peoples expectations?” she asked him, gazing down into the river flowing many meters below. “We try so hard to become what people expect us to be. But why?” Felicity finally look up to meet his blue eyes as she continued, her voice harsh, but quiet. “Don't you ever wonder what the point in life is?”
“No…” he answered, unsure of what to say.
“Why do we go to school, work jobs, try so hard? We all die in the end anyways, so why can’t I do it now?”
“Felicity…” he trailed off, “There are so many things to live for. Please don't do this.”
“I probably won’t anyways,” Felicity sighed, “I come here almost everyday and I’ve never had the courage. I’m just a useless coward.”
“Stop thinking so low of yourself. You’re beautiful, and I mean it.” He said, but Felicity knew he didn’t mean it.
“Give me a reason,” she blurted out, “Give me a reason to stay.”
“Than give me time.” He replied, “Give me time to make you stay.”
Without saying anything, Felicity climbed back over the bridge railing and planted my foot onto the ground.
“Fine,” Felicity grumbled while walking towards her house. “I doubt you’ll even try.”
He walked next to me in silence on our way back. Felicity thought it was awkward, since he was so deep in thought, not even looking at Felicity. It also gave her a chance to take good, long look at his face, so Felicity didn't mind.
The first thing she noticed was his ocean blue eyes. They were the kind of eyes that draw you in; they were pretty, and stared straight ahead the road. The quiff of his hair still stood tall, and it was messy-it was like 1:00 in the morning.
Felicity thought he was pretty darn attractive.
They walked side by side for a long time, and was finally near Felicity’s neighborhood. As they got closer, Felicity asked him the question that was on her mind the whole walk.
“How long have you known about this?”
He looked startled for a second, but answered her question none-the-less.
“I live close to you,” he started, shocking Felicity. “And by close, I mean 2 houses away. I always saw you walk past my house everyday and curiosity got the best of me, I guess.”
“Why were you even up so late?” Felicity asked, not knowing herself why she was so interested.
“Uhmm… I like music, and I like to write songs so I’m always up late,” he shyly confessed.
Both kids not knowing what to say, they walked in comfortable silence the rest of the walk home. As Felicity approached her house, Luke turned to her.
“Remember you aren’t alone, Felicity. I’m gonna try my best.”
Felicity didn’t believe him.
so she ignored him.
He covered his worried expression up with a smile.
“Bye,” she sighed, as she climbed the tree next to her window.
“Bye,” he called back quietly, making sure she made it safely into her own room.
As Felicity was about to close the window, the blonde boy looked up.
“I’m Luke, by the way.”
and Luke walked away.
