"If everything goes to plan then you never truly learn how to cope with the inevitable consequences"•
The first thing I heard was the steady beeping from a machine close by.
Opening my eyes slowly I was greeted with white walls and a lady slumped over in her chair, obviously asleep.
"Aunty?"
My voice came much harder then I expected, causing me to to clear my throat.
The lady close by jerked up and looked around all of a sudden, dazed. Her gaze fell on me and that's when I noticed how pink her eyes were. All signs pointed to crying but why? Why was I here? What had happened?
"Mila! Oh my goodness thank god you're okay my love."
Rushing over to me she hugged me quiet suddenly, the familiar scent of strawberries filled my nose as I welcomed the hug.
"What happened Aunty, why am I here?"
She faltered, hesitating she looked at her hands and then back up at me and then down again.
"Do you not remember the crash and the water?"
The minute she said those few words it all came back to me quite suddenly.
The car falling into the river.
The first aid kit breaking the window.
My parents-
-lost
I sucked in a breath and turned to my Aunt.
"Where's mom and dad? Where's Sophie?"
My voice came out rather shaky and quiet although in my head these words were being yelled continuously.
My aunt pushed back her blonde hair and furrowed her eyebrows. Crinkles on her forehead appearing making her appear much older then what she actually was.
"Sophie's in the next room, she's fine just a bit shocked."
She stopped for a minute and seemingly tried to get a hold of herself.
"Mila... you're parents m-my sister"
She stopped and took a shaky breath, looking my straight in the eye.
"They drowned in the car, they were both knocked unconscious when the car hit the water and couldn't s-save themselves."
At her last word she promptly burst in to tears and left the room saying something about alerting a nurse that I woke up.
I was rendered speechless.
It felt as though someone took a knife to my stomach and took everything out. Leaving me empty.
The tears came after several minutes of complete shock.
