Chapter 8

Ashley got up early and Josh was waiting for her with Kane at his side. Josh had explained the plan to Kane and got him to agree to keep an eye on Ashley. When Ashley saw the two men a dark smile spread across her face and she asked, "Kane you're going to partner me aren't you?"

He looked at Josh shocked, he hadn't seen Ashley for a couple of months and he was shocked with how much more sinister she was.

"Well are you or not?" Ashley snapped upon not getting a reply.

"Yes I am" Kane replied shocked.

"Excellent" Ashley muttered, "Well let's not hang around here we've got a job to do"

She turned but Josh shouted after her, "Ashley play nice"

Turning around she nodded her head and Kane followed her reluctantly. Josh was slightly worried about how that pairing was going to go. Kane had also been fairly good with Eva when she was living in the Abbey but then she was very different to Ashley. Now Ashley had been broken she was very forward and straight talking, she was also unpredictable which did unnerve Josh a bit.

Out in the street Ashley walked in front of Kane and he noticed even her walk was different. He didn't know what Josh had done to make her like this and it worried him a lot. It also made him wonder how Leto was going to react upon seeing her again and witnessing her massive changes.

"You have a wife don't you Kane?" Ashley asked out of the blue.

He was silent but finally replied, "Yes that's right"

"Huh" Ashley nodded in approval, "Lily is her name correct?"

"Yes"

"You've got two son's haven't you?"

Kane gulped but still answered, "Yes"

Ashley turned and smirked at him, "What's with the worry? I'm just making conversation with you"

"I didn't know you knew so much about my personal life" Kane replied.

"Oh well I do" Ashley smiled, "and I'm sure they wouldn't want to live the rest of their lives not knowing their father" she then made direct eye contact with Kane and moved closer to him, "Anything you want to tell me before I start asking my questions?"

"Are you blackmailing me?"

Ashley tilted her head, "yes"

"Is this for revenge on Eva?"

"Yes"

Kane contemplated asking the next question but decided to do it anyway, "Are you...are you a psychopath?"

"No" Ashley replied offended, "Have I ever hurt or killed anyone? But the way you're going you might be my first" She then laughed a bit before shaking her head, "Nah you won't be I can tell, you're going to help me aren't you Kane?"

"Yes..." Kane muttered.

"Great now for my question, when were you going to tell me about you working with Leto?" Ashley's eyes shot straight onto him.

"I haven't been" he told her.

"Oh you haven't..." she thought, "Then how did you know about Eva returning?" she shot him another look.

"Josh told me"

"Damn you're good...but I'm lucky really I can see through lies and I'll keep digging until I unearth the truth" she smiled.

"You'll be digging for some time then because there's nothing there to uncover"

"Well I suppose it is possible I could be wrong" Ashley sighed and she turned and walked away, "Soon we'll find out won't we?" she then stopped the conversation and continued to walk away.
