The bomb goes off

I wake up to the sound of my ringtone. I look at the clock: 3:45am. Sighing, I pull my phone out from under my pillow. Of course, who's calling me? Bethany. I pick it up.

"Bethany, what is it?"

(Sorry but I have to talk to you)

"At 4:00 in the morning?"

(I know, I know)

"Well then go ahead, talk"

(I just want you to be okay)

"Oh, um, thanks"

(I don't want you to be mad at me, because I miss you)

"No no no, Beth, I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at myself. I'm so sorry if I came across that way"

(You really aren't mad at me?)

"Oh god no!"

(Oh, thank god. So will you sit with us at lunch?)

"Of course I will, as long as it makes you happy"

(Promise you won't leave?)

"Pinky swear"

(Great. See you later, then!)

"Bye, Beth. Go to sleep!" I laugh into my phone.

(Goodnight) she laughs too. I disconnect from the call and fall back asleep very quickly.

At school the next day I walk into 2nd block and sit down next to Jack. He greets me with a kiss on the cheek.

"Hey, cutie" he says. I smile. He just stares at me for a while, smiling.

"What are you doing?" I laugh.

"Just trying to picture you in your dress for the Snow Ball" he says quietly. I smirk.

"I haven't gotten my dress yet" I say. He smiles.

"Well, I look forward to seeing you in whatever you choose" he says. I blush. The teacher walks in and the class starts. After the hour and 20 minutes, I walk to the cafeteria.

I thank the girl who was holding the door open for me and make my way inside. I spot my usual table, minus two: Anna and Riley aren't there. I sit down and lean over to Krystal.

"Where are Anna and Riley?" I ask. She timidly gestures over to a nearby table. There sits Amanda, Emily, Julia, Jennifer, Anna, and last but not least, Riley. I freeze. So this is what Amanda meant. Marisa looks at me worriedly.

"Are you okay, sweetie?" she asks. I shake my head.

"I don't know" I say, looking back over at them as they laugh. Amanda shoots me a knowing glance. I narrow my eyes. She smirks and returns to her conversation. I look over at Bethany and she touches my arm.

"It's okay, Liv. They still love you just as much as we do. Don't forget that" she said. I nodded.

"Yeah, I know" I lie. She tries to smile.

"Good" she says and we eat lunch.

After school, I go over go Alec's house. We sit in his basement, eating junk food and playing Grand Theft Auto 5. My phone vibrates and I check my screen. A text from Jack pops up. So excited to see you later! I furrow my eyebrows. I have no plans with Jack for later.... I text back. I didn't know we had plans :/. He replies. Whoops that wasn't for you lol. I shrug it off and lock my phone.

"Who was that?" Alec asks. I put my phone back in my pocket.

"Jack. He just got the wrong number. Told me he was excited to see me later. No big deal" I shrug. Alec looks at me.

"Do you really think he would send that to another guy?" he questions skeptically.

"It's not a big deal, okay?" I say loudly. He puts his hands up in defense.

"Okay, sorry" he says. Why is everyone so paranoid nowadays?

Later that night, I sit in my room listening to music. I hear a knock on the door and slide off my headphones.

"Come in" I say. The door pushes open and my mom comes inside, followed by my dad. I sit up.

"Cameron, please come to your sister's room" my mom calls. Cam comes in too and all three sit on the foot of my bed. My brother and I look at our parents.

"What is this?" I ask. My mom and dad look at each other. My dad speaks up first.

"Your mother and I have decided that we're going to divorce" he says. Boom. The bomb finally goes off. After all this time, it's finally blown up. I sit there, frozen. Tears fill my eyes.

"Honey, please don't cry" my mom pleads. They fall from my eyes and down my cheeks.

"What am I supposed to do?" I ask. She looks at me sadly.

"I know you two are very upset right now, but you have to understand that it's for the best" my dad pitches in. I shake my head.

"I can't understand anything right now" I say. I look at Cameron who's cheeks are stained with tears and grab his hand.

"So what's going to happen is I'm going to find my own place and you guys are going to stay here. You'll be with your mother all week but you'll get to visit with me on weekends, okay?" my dad tries to explain to us what will happen. I sob again and wrap my arms around Cam, who hugs me back. We kind of just sit there, hugging each other and sobbing for god knows how long. I pull away after  what feels like forever and notice that my are gone.

"Cam", I tell him, "they're gone". He looks up and wipes his eyes.

"Can I sleep with you tonight?" he asks. I nod.

"Okay. Grab your pajamas and brush your teeth. I just have to make one phone call". He nods in comprehension and leaves. I pull my phone out of my hoodie pocket and stare at the black screen. I need Anna. I need her right now, and nobody else. Taking a chance, I dial her number. It goes to voicemail and more tears fill my eyes. BEEP.

"Anna, I know I was so mean to you and I know that you have no reason to forgive me, but I really need you right now. I really do. Nobody else can help me, Anna. My parents are divorcing. I just found out tonight. I just need somebody to be there, and I know that you always are. Please, just give me a call when you get this, please...." I let it all out as I sob. I lock my phone and throw it onto my bed. I get into bed and put my headphones back on, turning on Lana Del Rey. I cry into my pillow listening to her lyrics until I fall asleep, not noticing when Cameron comes back in. The bomb inside of me finally goes off as well. Boom.
