I have a long time crush with Dustin, our school's ultimate heartthrob. After a long wait, I finally decided to tell him what I feel. Even though I'm trembling, I managed to gather all my guts to confess. I handed him the strawberry cake I specially made and told him how much I like him. But unfortunately, her girlfriend came and threw the cake at my face. With no satisfaction of what she did, she still spread the remaining of the cake to my uniform and pull out my hair until she gets tired. She even shouted at me infront of everyone and slapped me hard before she leave with her boyfriend. I was left sitting on the cold pavement of our school's field with the laughters of all the student who saw what happened.
I'm an outcast in our school. I had no friends to protect me or simply comfort me. Everyone in our school call me witch, weird, psycho and any other bad stuffs. I always eat in the cafeteria alone. I'm always being bullied. Our house is no difference. A father who's addicted in alcohol, an older brother with no job at all, and a mother who left us for another man.
Tomorrow came. Half of my day in school lasted with me hearing bad things about me from some students I walked by. Some students are busy talking about what happened hours after the cake incident with me yesterday that they completely forgot to insult me. The news about Gina who threw the cake to my face has spread to the whole university. She was ran to the hospital because of severe allergy from peanuts. They did not know that the food she ate that happened to be bought by her boyfriend has peanut on it. Her parents blamed her boyfriend for what happened to Gina and insisted to take her to States once she recover. If she will.
In lunch time, I eat in the cafeteria alone in my table in the very corner. I was silently eating not minding the never ending whispers about me and about Gina's food poisoning in the background. When a man in all smile approach me and sit opposite with me. I was shocked for it is the first time a man ever approach me. "Hi!", the man said to me with a big smile. I did not speak and just stare at the man's face, still shock. 'He's cute', I said to myself. He has this thing in his eyes that will make you feel comfortable with him.
I tried to avoid him but he was very determined to be close to me. I've learned that his name is Arlo, he's a transferee and he's in my class. He always follow me wherever I go. It should annoy me but instead, I was touched for he is the first man who ever showed persistence towards me.
Weeks passed, I started to get used to this man's presence. We became close and I started to open up with someone once again. I'm starting to like him. He was there while I'm moving on from Dustin who killed himself by jumping from the rooftop of our school's building. Yes, he died. He can't take the fact that Gina, her beloved girlfriend didn't survive from the severe allergy she got by eating the food he bought. I feel sad for the both of them but atleast they're together now.
One morning in school. We had an activity in one particular subject wherein we need to find a partner. Arlo and I automatically became partners. He is now discussing the activity in our textbook to me when a girl from my class approach me. "Hey. Since I don't have any other choice cause everyone in our class has already found a partner, I'll try to put up with you", she said trying to hide her disgust but still overflowed. "I'm sorry but I already have a partner, here", I answered pointing my index finger to Arlo's direction. She looks to where I point my finger and knotted her drawing eyebrows. "W-witch!", she uttered and run to her friends. She said something to her friends and they hugged her, as if to comfort her. I just shrugged my shoulders. Maybe it's because of Arlo. I get that, Arlo is a very charming man, he's handsome but he just hangs around with someone like me. I'm just confuse how they didn't bully Arlo for being my friend like what they used to before, but I still hope they won't.
It's friday night and I'm walking home from school. I was passing by a dark and empty street when a man wearing a black hooded jacket blocked my way. I felt scared knowing how weak I am, it'll be easier for him to capture me. He was about to catch me when a tall man stopped him from doing so. They exchange punches towards each other and the tall man almost defeat him if the man in hooded jacket didn't took a knife from its back. When the hooded man is about to stab him, the tall man took the knife from him then stab him in the abdomen. He slowly fall down to his knees. I was left standing there, staring at the dying man in front of me, shivering. I was brought back to my senses when someone held my arms. I almost scream but a palm quickly covered my mouth. "Don't worry, it's me. You're safe now." A very familiar voice whispered on my ears that make my tears fall down.
