It was another day on the planet of Veldin. Everyone was going about their lives as usual. It was just another ordinary day to everyone. All….except for Ratchet.

Ratchet was a Lombax who lived in a Garage with Grimroth Razz. Grim is a mechanic who has raised Ratchet ever since he found him  as an infant, in a tiny space shuttle sitting in front of his garage door.

Since then, Grim has been like a father to Ratchet. But while he has raised the boy these many long years, he was also Ratchets mentor, teaching the Lombax everything about fixing up ships and so on. Mechanic stuff.

Grim wishes for Ratchet to remain on Veldin and to continue working with him on repairs. But Ratchet tends to dream bigger…

“Grim, Grim! I uh...did all the repairs you asked of me!” Ratchet excitedly rushes over to Grim, claiming to had all his given task done and squared away with.

“Uh-huh, is that so? Well I got another thing for ya to get done. See that ship over there? It got in a wreck and something isn't quite right with the engines. Can you see if you can't figure out what's wrong with it and fix it up?”

“Sure thing Grim!” Ratchet rushes over to the ship to see what the problem was. He eventually figured it out, but finishes it unusually fast.

“Ratchet, you can't be done already.” Points out Grim, hardly believing that he could get a wrecked up engine to a ship fixed up in only twenty minutes.

“Well I am! This baby is as good as new. It's like the engines were never even damaged to begin with!”

“Oh really? Did you test it out?” With this, Ratchet jumps into the driver's seat to the ship and test out the engine. It lets out an ear piercing noise that sounded like something dying.

Ratchet nervously glances over to Grim, to only see him with an unamused look. He expected this much to happen.

“Ah...no worries! I got the perfect thing to fix this sucker up!” Ratchet anxiously pulls out a tool and jams it into what he thought was causing the problem. But the only thing...he did not even think for a moment that this would worsening the problem.

Suddenly the vehicle speeds out of the garage in high speed, causing Ratchet to let out a scream in startelement.

“Oh boy…” Grim mutters fearfully. This didn't look good. Ratchet tries to stop the speeding ship, but it refuses to follow it's command.

“Why….won't...you...stop!!” Suddenly the shuttle stops, causing Ratchet to fly out and crash into the ground. “Ow!.....ah, I'm ok!” He calls out weakly before standing up and dusting himself off. But the ship... definitely not ok.

Much more time has passed through the day, and Ratchet had finally finished up repairing the vehicle. And by that, he fixed it right.

“S-So, ah...I got everything done Grim. Can I perhaps….ask your permission on something?” Ratchets ears lowered a tiny bit, hinting how he was nervous.

“Huh, would this have anything to do with what's been exciting you so badly today? What is it?” Grim stops working and approaches the Lombax, giving him his full attention.

“W-Well, uh….you see, I...I...I want to join the Galactic Rangers!!” Ratchet manages to spit out his words, becoming completely excited but desperate.

“You want to join the Galactic Rangers? Still? Absolutely not, Ratchet. Have you seen them come back from one of those expeditions? It's crazy, you'll get yourself killed!” Grim becomes grim upon what Ratchet had asked him permission for.

“No, no, pleeeease Grim! You know I've always dreamed of joining! To explore what actually lies outside these Walls! To help the rangers discover the truth in defeating the Titans so that one day, we could all--”

“Ratchet, stop. We've had this discussion many times before. I will not be having you join just so your eaten alive. And for what? To live Outside, the way our ancestors once did? It's not possible, and it won't happen Ratchet. Trust me. If you step even one foot out there, you will be eaten, devoured, killed! Or worst! Weir never going to defeat the Titans, and I didn't raise you so you'd become Titan fodder!” Upon using this remark, Grim instantly regrets what he says and softens up.

“Look, Ratchet….I-I didn't mean...look, I'm just scared, ok? I don't want to risk losing you.”

“Well….You already have.” Ratchet shoves past Grims arm that originally gripped Ratchets shoulder gently, and he takes off out of the Garage.
