Al agreed with Kenna’s choice of position and in amazing expertise, speed, and skill, he set up his small camp area and I knew he did it so well because he did it his entire life.
Me, I took a bit longer. And needed help. This ended up being Josh. And heck, the muscles in his shoulders, his forgiving smile when I stepped on his hand and the way he….
Anyways, we all set up a pretty decent enough camp site and I was happy we could at least have a camp fire. Drake argued against it, but I think he only did that because everyone else agreed to it.
And, I was suddenly craving smores, but we didn’t have the materials to make smores so I settled for deer that Drake and Al caught on their travels here.
CHAPTER 29
Al got talking, “So, what was this Garion like?”
Kenna didn’t seem to mind this choice of topic at all, and her eyes glittered when she leaned into her bedspread and began to recall the simplest things about Garion, “Well, he was amazing. Not just because he was a really talented wolf and had a lot of power…but he was humble. He didn’t use his abilities to hurt or to…he was a good guy. A really good guy. He had this way of making everyone feel like family and he never put himself first---”
“Except when it came to spending time with you,” Josh smirked and she ignored his teasing.
“---and he was just amazing.”
“How’d he get all that power?” Al seemed genuinely interested while he leaned forward and I could see Drake in the back, grimacing.
This time, Josh answered, “Well, he’s much older than I am, so I don’t know everything…but he got his power and strength from not looking for it, really. A lot of wolves crave power, it’s in our blood. I did at first too, until I met Garion. He’s different, that’s for sure. He learned the secrets of himself, that’s how he found his power.”
Now Drake paid attention, “So you were power hungry too?”
Josh winced, “I didn’t know I was a wolf until I was eight. I wasn’t stronger than my wolf side, so yes, I craved power but Garion whom had been a longtime family friend, quickly altered that. It was a long time ago,” Josh confirmed. Now I was confused.
“Wasn’t Garion your brother?” I asked.
“No, not by blood. He is my best friend…it would be like you calling Kenna your sister. I’ve only ever had a sister. His blood brother…well, he’s passed on,” Josh frowned and Al interrupted before Drake could dig deeper and upset anyone. Also, this new information made me realize I didn’t really know Josh. How could I even think of liking him?
“So, Garion’s really powerful, huh? Then whoever has him has to have made sure he’s stayed alive,” Al sounded confident enough to go out and find Garion then and there. I still longed to meet this mysterious man I’ve only ever heard of. He must have been powerful if he could create a Wolf Loved. Of course, love is powerful and that is what he did it out of.
