He woke up to the steady beeping of a machine.
'A heart monitor.' he thought.
He was in a hospital.
He couldn't remember what exactly happened.
He remembers flashes of mutts and flesh and blood, a lot of blood.
He tried to open his eyes but they seemed to be glued shut.
He wanted to talk but his mouth was to dry. He tried to sit up , to lift his arms, to lift his head, but none of his muscles would react.
Slowly came the waves of panic.
He couldn't move, he didn't know where he was and he didn't know what happens to him, let alone the rest of the team, or the world.
Or Annie.
At the thought of his wife, and of how he was unsure of her situation, his heartbeat speed up.
He heard footsteps.
Someone was coming.
The steps came closer, he or she was now right next to his bed.
He heard some ticks and clacks from the machine.
And then a voice. Soft. Female. Unknown to him.
"Finnick Odair?" she asked. His heart beat sped up.
"Can you hear me? You're in district 13. You're safe." she paused.
"Okay I want you to listen very carefully. I am going to take of your eyepads so you can open your eyes okay?"
And with that he felt two cold hands on his face and the weight that lifted on his eyes and part of his nose were gone.
Slowly he opend his eyes.
The first thing he saw was a gray ceiling.
Then his eyes met the owner of the voice that had spoken to him just seconds ago. She was a olive skinned lady in her beginning forties. She looked at him and told that she was going to do some tests with his eyes.
After she had shown a bright light in his face, she wrote something down and told hime that his eyes were fine.
Then she said she was going to bring a doctor and left.
The only company he had was that of the steady beat of the heart monitor.
