In times like these, only hope remains alive. Smoke, shrapnels, bullets, limbs exploded everywhere in the battle field and the soldiers who were left had to retreat back to their camp behind thick trees and a forest drained of its greenish beauty. The 107th lost but tomorrow will be another day to fight. Sergeant Barnes clutched on to his wound as he walked back to the camp when one of the injured soldiers ran up to him. He had an arm cast but he saluted before speaking in a hurried, excited speech.

"Sir! The medic is here."

"The medic?" Bucky said. "I thought she was supposed to arrive tomorrow?"

"She came as soon as she heard," the soldier said as they both walked towards the tent. "She insisted on staying until all our soldiers are well and healthy. She's right here."

The soldier pulled aside the curtain of the tent and let the sergeant see for himself: a woman in a brown trench coat with an unconscious man by her side. She was wiping his face with a damp cloth and when she saw the sergeant, she stood up to greet him.

"Sergeant Barnes."

Thick German accent rolled off of her tongue and for a second, every soldier present were alarmed but Bucky simply nodded.

"Miss (L/n)," he said. "Thank you for arriving early. We've brought home more soldiers and I wish we could've made a more grand entrance but that'll have to wait 'til we win this war."

"There's no need for a grand entrance," she said. "What's important is that I'm here and I'm capable enough to help these soldiers fight and win the war."

"Is he going to be alright?" Bucky gestured at the man on the bed.

"He's fine. He fell ill before the fight so he's quite lucky to be here with us."

"Luck saved him today," he smiled.

"I would believe so."

The injured man looked at them and silently crept away from the tent to tell the other soldiers and the Colonel while Bucky fell in an awkward silence at her gaze. A German medic in an American base? Suspicious. And the more he stared at her face, the more he wondered if such a pretty face is capable of betraying them. Or is it part of the charm?

"You're hurt."

"What?"

"Right here," she said, touching his left cheek very lightly where she swiped a bead of blood and he received a stinging sensation that made him hiss. "Please sit down first."

Bucky obeyed while she took something from her pocket. 'Is she going to cut me? Get a blood sample and send it to a mad scientist? Crap. Crap. I'm going to get stabbed.'

But (Y/n) simply opened a small, metal box with some cotton and started dabbing his cut until the blood was all gone. Bucky kept a few inches away from her and she sensed his obvious discomfort though she misunderstood what it meant.

"It's just a cut. It's not infected or anything but if you're still worried, I could clean it for you but it might sting a little," she smiled.

'A German spy wouldn't say that. Or if she was one, well, she's awfully kind to be worried about me. Damn it, she's so nice.'

"Sure," he said.

(Y/n) cleaned the cut until all that was left was a little line. It did sting but the shock from the battle still lingered and so it numbed his skin.
