Chapter 7: Tuesday Blues
“Star Marie Johnson you get your butt in here now!!”
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I cursed myself as I made my way downstairs to find my aunt in the living room with her arms crossed over her face and her gaze intense.
“Hey Auntie Anne. What’s up?” I asked coolly as if nothing was wrong.
“Don’t ‘what’s up’ me. I need you to explain to me what possessed you to get into a fight with a child at school and getting detention.”
I stood there nervously unable to answer her question. My eyes snapped to her as soon as she waved her hand in my face for a response.
“I didn’t start a fight.” I said and she stared at me as if asking for me to explain my previous statement. I let out a breath before I continued. “I was having lunch and then this kid comes up to speak with me and she was all up in my face about flirting with her boyfriend.” My aunt looked at me shocked and I giggled as I stared at her. “Relax; i wasn’t flirting with her boyfriend. He was just introducing himself. Anyway, so I asked who she was talking about. Long story short I basically embarrassed her in the cafeteria. She tried to slap me; I blocked it out with my hand and shoved her. She went i to dramatics, howling loudly although I didn’t even push her hard. Yep that’s about it.”
My aunt sent a disapproving look my way and shook her head at me. “Star, you still did attack her, whereas she did nothing.”
“So you expect me to let her hit me and do nothing about it?” I said, my mood turning from neutral to irritate in mere seconds.
“No Star. I expect you to tell the principal, or a teacher, not bully her!”
“Are you freaking serious right now? I was in no way in hell going to make that snob hit me, and not protect myself. I was not going to tattle on her either! I took karate for a reason. And if we had to go to court, that would be self defence!” this time, i was screaming. I screamed so loud that my face went red.
My aunt came closer and closer to me until I could feel her breath fanning my face, and her face red as well. She was angry. “Star Maria Johnson, I am your caretaker for the next three months, so I have the authority to ground you for the time being. I will let you out easy so you only have a week. I am not grounding you for the stunt you pulled in school, but the way you addressed me. I will not be spoken to like that. Especially from you. Now go upstairs now.” She said calmly with her eyes closed, and finger pointing to the stairs.
“But I-“ before I could finish, she cut me off.
“GO!” I huffed out a breath and made my way upstairs, but not in the way that you would normally see on the movies when the girl would have a tantrum about her parents was ruining her life.
I closed the door behind me and flopped down on my bed and soon my mind was welcomed by the world of dreams.
.....
The next morning I spent it completely ignoring my aunt. In all my life of knowing the woman, never have i ever seen her so mad. To be honest, she scared me.
I took a shower, brushed my teeth, straightened my hair and dressed myself for school.
I was a bit disappointed when I found out that Harry wasn’t there but i would have expected that because he didn’t live with us, and he had a life of his own to live.
