Chapter 16

Valerie's P.O.V.

"Hey, Luke!" I yell in the hallway, between classes.

"Oh, hey Hart. What's up?" He asks with a smile.

"Have you seen Ashton today?" I ask.

"Nope. He stayed home today. Faked sick. Said he really didn't want to come to school."

"Isn't that like, a little suspicious?" I ask.

Luke raises an eyebrow. "No. He used to skip school all the time before he met you. But since you two don't have any classes together today I guess he figured it really didn't matter if he came to school today."

"Oh." I say with an awkward smile.

"Women. Always over analyzing."

"That's why you're single." I tell him with a grin.

"Ha ha." Luke says with an eyeroll. "Want to eat lunch with me and the guys today?"

"Sure." I tell him with a smile.

"Cool. We'll be waiting out front for you when it's time for lunch."

"Okay. See you." I tell him with a smile before turning and heading to class. I take a seat and get my books out.

The class goes by in a blur. I take notes the whole time, distracting myself from overthinking everything with Ashton. Luke knows him so well. If Luke isn't worried, I shouldn't be either. When the bell rings, I gather my things and head to my locker. I put all my books inside before grabbing my bag and head outside.

Someone slings their arm around my shoulder and I gasp quietly. Michael lets out a laugh. "Oh c'mon, did that really scare you?"

"Sometimes I don't like you." I tell him with a laugh.

"Calum and Luke should be out here any minute." Michael says with a smile. "So, how are things going with you and Ashton? Have you two fucked yet?"

"They're going good, I guess. And no, Michael, we have not fucked." I tell him with an eyeroll.

"You two are so cute together it hurts." Michael says in an obnoxious teenage girl voice. "I ship it so damn hard!"

"Fuck off." I tell him with a laugh, shrugging his arm off my shoulder.

"Michael, leave her alone." Luke says, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind.

"Why are all of you so damn touchy?" I mutter, untangling myself from Luke's grip.

"I'm not." Calum says with a smile.

"Ah yes, you. The quiet, mysterious one I've only said three sentences to ever." I tell him with a smirk.

"Where are we going for lunch?" Luke asks.

"I don't know. Don't really care." Calum says.

"Can we get pizza?" I ask. "I kind of want some."

"I'm in love with you." Michael says.

"Leave me alone." I tell him with a laugh.

"Everyone shut up and get in the car." Luke says with a laugh, grabbing my arm and leading me forward. We all walk to his car and pile in. Michael sits in the passenger seat and Calum sits in the back with me. Luke pulls out of his parking space and starts driving.

"So, how have you been?" I ask Calum.

"Oh cut the small talk, Val." He says with a laugh.

"Harsh." I tell him with a laugh.
