OthersSong:
IDOl seems to be mix of modern and traditional sounds something completely intentional
It's got an EDM and trap groove sound but
Also uses traditional korean instrument
This is BTS showing us that they can be popular
Worldwide but still keep their South Korean
Roots. That they don't need to become
More " Westernized"The part after the bridge also reminds
Me of FIRE. IDOL, like FIRE, has got
That anthem soundLyrics:
The lyrics of idol advocate self-love
And acceptance
" You can't stop me lovin' myself "
Their delivery and lyrics show that they're
Proud of their heritage and culture:
" You can call me artist, You can call me idol
Or any other something you come up
With. I don't care "
Seokjin, who sings the intro
(epiphany) for this album also sings:
"It's okay I'm in love with myself.
It's okay, I'm happy with this moment"
The chorus is filled with exclamations that
Are known as pansori- A korean genre of
Musical story telling that goes as far beck
As the Joseon Dynasty.
Originally a form of entertainment
For the lower class, pansori was adopted by
The elite in the 19th century.
Pansori singers are rape and considered
" National Treasures " by
The South Korean Goverment
This suggest that IDOL is a song that treasures
Their culture and shows that they are proud
Of it.
In the song, Jhope mentions
John Woo in his lyrics
" Face off, just like John woo ay "
Face/Off is a sci-fi action film directed
By woo and was nominated for an academy award.
To this day there haven't been many Asians
That have been nominated, let alone win.The Mv
Off the bat, this is what I noticed about
The MV:
Bright colors
Animals
Asian Influences
The appearance of so many bright colors
Is suppose to reflect BTS mood and
Message about loving yourself
The colors Reminded me of DNA,
So many contrasting and ViVid colors.
The animals in this MV are
Significant to different Asian cultures
Tiger, rabbit,dragon etc.
The first animal we see are giraffes.
They symbolizes being able to reach things that
Seem to be impossible to gain. This represents
BTS going beyond everyone's expectation
Dragon are present in Korean
Folklore. Ironically, while European
dragon ,Are associated with fire, korean dragons
Are associated with water.
Yet there is a fire-breathing dragon
In the MV. Could this be a dig at
People that accused BTS of " Westernized"
