"Cy?" My mother questioned when she saw Cynthia standing next to me. Cynthia was being quiet and withdrawn, but after what she just went through and how our relationship with our mother has been like the past, I don't blame her for her reaction to seeing our mother.
"Hey, Mom. Are you doing good in here?" I asked, as I stepped forward and hugged her quickly. She smiled at me and nodded.
"Yeah, I'm good. I'm surprised, to say the least, that both of you are here. Cy, what's wrong?" She asked, and my sister quickly sat down and avoided eye contact.
"Mom, she was at the hospital, and a grieving parent came in and starting shooting. Some person pulled her out of the way before she was shot. And then she was upset because I got the case and then I was shot." I whispered. Serena's eyes went wide as she stared at me.
"You got shot? Are you okay? The baby?" She whispered, and I sighed.
"Come on, let's sit and talk."
[*]
Cynthia ended up sobbing. She just couldn't deal with what she was feeling, and I got the guards to ignored what was happening so Cynthia could hug my mother. Once we finished talking, Cynthia and I walked outside and headed towards my car.
"Feel better after being able to talk to her?"
"No." She sniffled, and I frowned.
"Cy-"
"I almost died. It was just so scary. I couldn't help but think about being away from you, Mom, Elliot, and Christopher. I was so scared that I'd never see you all again. I have a family, and I almost lost it."
"Cy, if you want to take leave and focus on your mental health and recovery, we completely understand. And... not too long from now, I'm gonna need help because Elliot and I are having a baby."
"What?" My sister asked, and I smiled softly.
"Yeah, I'm pregnant... So if decide you don't want to be a doctor or a nurse anymore, it's okay. You can still live with us, and there will be more time for you to spoil your nephew and eventually this baby. I just want you to feel better... to feel safe where ever you are. Okay?"
"I'm so lucky to have you as my sister. And I'm so excited for you to have a baby!" She exclaimed, and I smiled.
"Alright, but you can't tell anyone, alright? Mom and Elliot know, but no one at work knows, and Chris doesn't know. He won't know until we know that nothing will happen. I want to make sure that the baby is healthy and stuff before we tell him. Okay?"
"Okay. Come on. I think I'm going to treat you to lunch because I'm actually hungry again." Cynthia laughed, and I smiled.
"Sounds good."
[*]
Everything was kinda a blur over the months that followed the shooting. Christopher was doing amazing in school, and I was back to work, and Cynthia wasn't working yet. She still hadn't been cleared by the therapist that was going through all of the employees that were working at the hospital on the day of the shooting. She was getting help, and that was what matters the most.
But thankfully I ended up getting through my first trimester, and when I was about 14 weeks pregnant we were finally able to tell Chris about the baby, and that meant I had to tell John before Christopher spills it when he comes in to see me. So, we sat down for dinner with Cynthia and Christopher and got ready to tell him.
"Mommy, you look weird," Christopher spoke, as he stared at me from across the table. I coughed a bit and looked at him.
"I look weird? You have ranch all over your face." I smirked, and he giggled a bit as he swung his legs.
"Alright little dude, you remember when I told you that you might be getting a sibling if I could convince your Mommy?" Elliot spoke, as he ran his hand over my leg. I grabbed his hand with my free one, as I continued to eat a bit of the weird thing Cynthia made us for dinner.
"Yeah, but when is that going to happen? I've been waiting, forever!" He exclaimed, and I laughed softly.
"Mommy has a baby in her belly, Chrissy. That's why you've had to be careful with Mommy." Elliot smiled, his eyes sparkling and full of so much happiness.
"What?" Christopher questioned. He started to climb down from his seat, but Cynthia grabbed his arm and stopped him.
"There is a baby in my belly, Chrissy. It'll still be a bit, but then the baby will be here."
"Okay..." He sighed, because he was clearly confused. I stood up and walked around to where he sat, and I grabbed his small hand before placing it to where my stomach had started to swell. Pants were my enemy, and so since my pants were tighter, the small swell I had was more noticeable.
"See, my belly is getting bigger."
Christopher was getting it a little more, and quickly stood up on his chair to hug me.
"Are you excited?" Elliot laughed, and Chris nodded.
"I am, but I have to wait so long!" He whined, as he rested his head against my chest.
"It won't seem too long, baby. You are in school, and we have that trip to Maine coming up soon. You will be surprised how fast the baby will come when we are busy." I spoke, as I leaned down and kissed his forehead gently.
"Are you sure?" He asked, and I nodded.
"I'm sure. Now, let's finish eating and then Daddy and I can show you a picture of the baby."
[*]
Christopher insisted on keeping the sonogram picture in his room that night. He was so excited once he was actually able to know what the baby looked like, even if he said it looked like a black blob.
But it felt so good to not have to keep this secret from our son anymore, because it's his sibling, and having to keep it from him was stressful and annoying.
"Alright, all you have to do is tell John and your crew, and then we can announce it to my family," Elliot spoke, as we laid together in bed. He ran his hands over my bare back, as we laid tangled together under the sheets.
"I'm nervous. Like what is he going to say? I've been hiding it from him..."
"Well, he'll probably be pissed, but the good news is that he can't discriminate against you because you are pregnant. He can't fire you."
"I don't think he'd fire me... I just hope that we don't get a huge case because then it would be a bad time to tell him."
"I'm just so excited, Liv. Like, we are going to be parents to two amazing kids before we know it." Elliot smiled, and I nodded.
"You feel the same about this baby as you do about Chris, right?"
"Of course. He is our child, no matter what people say."
