"You got two black eyes from lo-" I slapped my hand on my pillow until I found my phone and turned off my alarm. With a groan I rolled over and checked the time. 10am. Way too early for a Saturday morning. I would've given anything to sleep in just a little longer, but I knew I couldn't. She was coming to pick me up. We both got a week off work and it was school holidays, so we were hanging out, and I wanted to look my best.
Clambering out of bed, I rummaged through my closet to find something decent to wear. I ended up with a plain white tee and ripped, black skinny jeans. I managed to pile my hair onto the top of my head and strap a hair tie around it.
Checking my phone again, I read the time. 10:20. She'd be here soon, and I couldn't wait. Right at that moment I heard a buzz and looked down at my phone. It was her.
Katie:
heyy im almost here. see you soonI moved my thumbs to my screen but before I knew it she was pulling up in my driveway. The car door flung open as she stepped out and I ran to give her a hug.
"Katie! Oh my god, I haven't seen you in forever!" I exclaimed, rather excitedly.
"I missed you so much! How have you been?" she asked as we drew apart and started getting into her car.We had a conversation about how my boyfriend (now ex), Marcus, cheated on me. Ever since the relationship started, I could tell something was off; though I couldn't tell if it was me or him.
"Tell him to choose a head cause one's coming off!"
"No, Katie. Please don't do anything! I kinda just wanna forget it ever happened."
"Fine," she said with an over-exaggerated sigh and a slight giggle.I missed these talks. Ever since the start of our senior year, the school workload had piled up and we didn't really have time to see each other. We used to talk about everything, but that had stopped. We were lucky to find the time between work and school to go out for a coffee anymore.
"Soo...?" she questioned.
"So what?"
"Anything new?"
"No, nothing worth mentioning."Lies. There was something I had been meaning to talk to her about. I just couldn't quite figure out how to start the conversation.
"You sure? I can tell when something's on your mind. You seem a little... distracted."
"I'm fine," I chuckled. "Really."Katie drove us to the mall and decided we go shopping. God knows I could use some help with my fashion.
She parked the car and I followed her inside, entering the first clothing store she laid her eyes on. Immediately she started looking through the racks, attempting to find something she liked in her size. Turning to me, she held up a little black dress and told me she was going to try it on.
A few minutes later I felt the familiar buzz of my phone. I pulled it out and read the text on the screen.
Katie:
come to the dressing roomSlipping my phone back into my pocket, I weaved through the maze of clothing racks to the changing rooms. I gave a slight knock on the door of the cubicle in which I had seen her enter. The door unlocked, and a hand appeared, pulling me inside.
"I need your help with this zip – I can't reach it."
Reaching my hand down to her lower back, I fumbled the zip between my fingers and pulled it up. She turned to me, showing off her dress. It perfectly outlined her body; emphasising her curves. I looked up at her aqua blue eyes, my eyes slowly drifting down to her soft, pink lips. Butterflies filled my stomach. Had she always been this beautiful? Or had I just never noticed? A hazy voice brought me out of my daze.
"Well? What do you think?"
"It looks... i-it makes you look cute. Not that you don't look cute without it, you always look cute. I mean... I'll just shut up now."
"Thanks, T," she smiled.I realised I was rambling and looked down at my shoes. My face was hot, and I could tell I was blushing. Why was I so awkward all of a sudden?
