//Twenty Two — It’s Maddi, folks//

Short Chapter

Willa Van der Mariel

I rolled over in my bed, digging my face into the pillow. My alarm was beeping off the hook, and my head was aching. I didn’t even have to go to school today. We were picking up Maddi from the airport. She was coming over from Austin City. Where her Uncle owned a large company.

Beep

Beep

Beep

Alright, that’s enough.

I shot up like a stalk, and lunged at my phone. I practically smashed the screen trying to turn it off, and eventually it switched off. I pulled back, running my hand through my brown hair. For some odd reason it was down.

Yesterday came back to me, and I quickly spun around in my bed.

Mason wasn’t there.

I had a dream about my fake boyfriend acting like a real one.

Heaving a great sigh, I got out of bed, managing not to trip over. Light was spilling through my window, as was the morning breeze which ruffled my curtains slightly. I headed to my bathroom. The sun was shining in their too, which meant Eldon had already had his shower. I closed the door behind me, and had began to take off my clothes when I saw her. She was brushing her hair, pulling back the brown curls and tightening them into a neat bun. I saw her beside me in the mirror, and could see my shocked face beside her.

Her eye’s had been closed both times I had seen her.

But, now they were open. Showing her chocolate brown eyes that were the exact same colour as my own. She shot me a irritable look. She said something, but no words came out of her mouth. I could only stare at her in the mirror, taking up all her features.

“Averie” I breathed.

Then, she smiled. A smile that I had missed so much, and took my breath away. But, I smiled back. Because that was what we use to do.

One was happy, and we were both happy.

One was sad, and we were both sad.

One was a crazy lunatic who was seeing her sleeping sister, and the other was the sleeping sister.

I couldn’t help it. I had to smile back.

“Come home, Ave. Please” I begged to her reflection.

Averie said something, but I couldn’t hear her. I could only read her lips. It could of either been ‘soon’ or ‘you’. Then, she disappeared. Just like that. Like her reflection had fainted into the air, and left me standing alone in the bathroom.

I continue to stare at the mirror.

My heart is beating furiously in my heart.

I feel tears drip down my face, but before they are there. I have started the shower, and stripped down to my skin, before standing in the shower for a good ten minutes. The water was nice on my skin, washing away the ickiness of sleep. Averie’s face swarmed my mind, and the smile that I had missed so much.

She had been there.

I am sure.

Yet, I knew it was just an hallucination. A big one that meant I was slowly loosing my precious mind.
