Dovewing stared miserably across the clearing, as she ate her sodden mouse. The rain had been nonstop since dawn and had woken almost every cat up. Every so often a big, fat raindrop would plop down onto her head. Gulping down the last morsel, she stood up and shook herself.

Wincing as she stepped out into the constant drizzle, she hurried over to where Brambleclaw and a few other cats were huddled under the highledge. Brambleclaw's voice rang out into the clearing as he assigned patrols.

"Sorreltail, you can lead a hunting partrol, Millie, Birchfall, Sunpaw, and Dovewing can go with you." he decided. Sorreltail gathered her patrol together, then raced out the camp entrance. Dovewing fell in step with Sunpaw who was struggling to keep up with the rest of the patrol.

Sunpaw kept slipping in the mud, and soon her white chest was covered in gooey mud. "The mud will help disguise your scent." Dovewing offered, but Sunpaw just glared at her and raced to catch up with the other cats. Dovewing hung her head.

In a few more strides Dovewing caught up to the cats. "Ok, let's split up and hunt." Sorreltail mewed. Millie trotted over to Dovewing, but stopped two tail lengths away. She stared down at her paws and said "Would you like to hunt?" Dovewing gave a brisk nod then turned away.

Millie was just like every other cat. They either looked at her like a helpless kit, or jumped whenever they touched. Ever since her sister, Ivypool had left Thunderclan to live with Tigerheart in Shadowclan, every cat was wary of her. Except for her mother, Whitewing, and her father, Birchfall. As if she was going to announce she was a traitor any second.

Dovewing's paws slipped in the wet mud and she made her way down the short slope into the Thunderclan camp. She tipped her head back to keep her squirrel was dragging in the mud. She trotted through the thorn tunnel, and deposited her fresh kill.

There wasn't really any point in keeping the mud off her prey, she thought to herself, it's just going to get drenched in rain anyway. She trotted to the warriors den to get away from the rain. She curled up in her nest with her tail over her nose. All the while thinking of Ivypool. I wonder if she likes it better there? She thought. I want Ivypool back, she wailed silently to herself. Squeezing her eyes shut she forced herself to sleep.
