When Elyse got back to her room, she slammed the door shut and locked it behind her. She quickly removed the dress and threw it onto the floor before breaking down in tears. Elyse hugged herself as she cried, slipping out of the heels she was wearing, and leaving them beside the discarded dress. She ran a hand through her hair, doing her best to keep quiet as she cried, but she found it hard to.

Her makeup smeared her face from the tears, leaving a trail of color on her cheeks. She ran to the bathroom and washed the makeup from her face, which was now red, and tear-stained. Elyse then left the bathroom and collapsed onto the bed, sobbing into the pillows.

How could he think they were soulmates? How could someone like him even feel something for her? It was obvious, wasn't it? He couldn't. He didn't. Elyse was sure of that. He had no soul, his heart didn't beat. He couldn't possibly feel anything for her, could he? Elyse didn't know what to think. Just the other day, she hadn't even believed in vampires, and now she was here, in Dracula's castle, under the watch of his blood red eyes. Just the thought of those eyes on her made a shiver run down Elyse's spine.

...

She felt a hand gently on her skin, fingertips brushing lightly upon the smooth flesh of her back. Elyse began to stir, her eyes blurred over. She blinked a few times in an attempt to get her eyes to focus, but they did not obey. Her mind was clouded with sleep, trying to gain hold of consciousness. There was a voice, soft-spoken, calm. It was so familiar sounding.

"Wake up, my dear. There is much to do today," she heard the voice whisper in her ear. "My sweet soulmate." Elyse's eyes flew open. She knew exactly who that voice belonged to. She sprang upwards and turned, screaming when she saw Vladislaus standing before her. She grabbed the blanket and held it tightly to her chest to cover herself. When the hell had she even fallen asleep?

"I apologize. I did not mean to frighten you," Vladislaus said, holding his hands up slightly in surrender. His blue eyes shifted downwards to look at the blanket which hid Elyse's chest.

"What are you doing in here? How did you even get in here? I had the door locked!" Elyse shouted, her grip on the blanket tightening with every word.

"Elyse, my love. I do possess many powers, and my strength is beyond any mere man's. Also, I do have spare keys to each room in my possession. It would be rather odd if I could not access places in my own home, don't you think?"

Elyse was silent, staring up into his eyes. They were still blue, not the blood red color that terrified her so much. Vladislaus stepped forward. "I simply came to wake you up. I have some activities planned for today that I would like you to join me in. I want to show you just how much I love you. I want you to know that I do."

Elyse scoffed. "Don't lie to me. Your cold, dead heart is incapable of love. You can't feel anything for me," she said, crossing her arms. Elyse's eyes never left his. She swore that she could see something within his eyes, but she said nothing of it.

"I've felt something for you since I laid eyes on you, and when we officially met, I knew you were the one for me," he told her. "I cannot deny my feelings for you, Elyse... and it hurts me very much to know that you do not believe me when I say that I love you." He turned to face away from her and headed for the door. "Get dressed, my love. I expect to see you downstairs in an hour's time." Vladislaus left the room and closed the door behind him, leaving Elyse alone once again.

...

Elyse had dressed herself in a short, emerald green dress. The dress stopped just above her knees, which she was slightly uncomfortable about. She had always been insecure about her knees, believe it or not. Elyse had just always thought her knees were ugly.
