"'In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth,'" Danny read dramatically, "'and the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters...'" He scoffed. "Bullshit."

Jaz looked up from the bookcase she was kneeling at and smiled, "When you've quite finished disrespecting the religion of about a third of the population, you might want to take a look at this." She held up a withering, old black book with intricate carvings in the hardback cover. "Page 66." Jaz stood up and wiped the dust off of her jeans, then crossed her arms and watched Danny look for the page. At an average 5'5, she only reached his shoulder. "Could you be any slower?"

"What? It's an interesting read- oh, here it is!" He pulled the book closer to his face and made the mistake of inhaling. He started coughing and waving the dust cloud away. "Well, that's definitely the thing that attacked us."

"You don't say. Come on, let's show it to Wesley and see if he knows how we kill it."

Jaz started walking towards the back office, stopping at the door and looking back when she realized Danny wasn't following.

"We?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, don't start. I won't lose it this time." She crossed her arms. "It only happened last time because-"

"Because you were tired." He finished. "And the last time you slept was for about 7 hours last night on Wesley's couch. You're not going, Jahzara."

"But-"

"Danny's right. You can't go, Jahzara. It's too dangerous." Wesley appeared at the door, carrying a stack of books. Jaz stepped out of the way so he could set them on the table.

"I'm not even tired!" But even as she said it, she felt the need to close her eyes. Danny threw her a 'yeah, right' look and she threw her hands in the air. "Well, you can't go alone, I won't let you do that."

"I'll be fine, Jahzara." He sat next to Wesley on the couch in front of the table. "Cayden's coming anyway."

Jaz's face dropped. "Great," she snapped sarcastically, "well, have fun dying." She stormed towards the hallway adding, "And stop fucking calling me Jahzara. It's Jaz." and slammed the door behind her.

Danny picked up the red leather book that was nearest him on the table and started flicking through it. "Have you noticed that she reacts like that every time Cayden's name is mentioned?"
