"It will take a while before we can show you the results you will be contacted once they are finalized," said the doctor.
"Well I guess that means free time for us," Matthew said.
"So what are we going to do?" I asked
"Introduce you to your friends of course. the best way to get your memory back is to get back to your roots."
"Well, then take me away," I said as he lead me off
Once again he took me down corridor after corridor, turning this way and that, walking up and down stairs. we got to an elevator and climbed inside.
"Can i ask you something?" Matthew asked
"Yeah," replied
"You seem to trust me a lot, you haven't even ask me where we're going. you,re sure you don't remember me?"
"Well, I don't remember you but, I have a strong feeling......instinct almost, that I've known you before and you haven't given me a reason to not trust you.
"also the reason why I haven't asked you were we're going is because even if I did know were we are going I wouldn't known where that is or how it looks."
"Huh," he said thoughtfully
"Now I have a question for you, Tris, me was dead, but now I'm not. and you're acting as if I was never dead. you're taking my not-being-dead situation pretty well," I said
"I didn't hear a question in there," he said teasingly
"fine, why are you handling the situation well?"
"Well it is possible you had faked your death you've done it before. For reasons I don't know. Also because you are a friend and I'd jump at the chance that you are still alive."
"Oh," I said flattered
Ding the elevator chimed. Matthew stepped out of the elevator and headed for the exit.
When we stepped outside, there was a burst of light. It took me a few seconds for my eyes to adjust. When they finally did I saw the streets, there were cars, but mostly people on the side.
I stepped out onto the side walk. a train chugged by on about 12-15 feet tall tracks. Almost all the building nearby were enormous.
All the people didn't seem to be rushing they were all talking with one another, mingling. they all had a happy attitude. everyone seemed glad to be where they were, doing what they were doing.
"Wow," I said in awe
"I know it's changed quite a bit from before, it's better, happier," Matthew said
"There was a time when everyone was separated into five groups-" he started
"Yeah I know i'm abnegation, I still have to have my showing ceremony," I said
"Well, now you don't need to worry about that the factions don't exist anymore. we got rid of them everyone is their own person. they are anyone they want to be,"Matthew told me, calmly and with a happy ring to his voice.
"What?!" i exclaimed "life without the faction, thats impossible, it's all we've know. no, that's not true, I'm Abnegation. That's all I ever was that's all I'll ever be. We're supposed to trust the test to tell us if we belong in another faction, not in a different world!" A wave of sadness hits and I speak quieter,
"my life is all a lie? How can you be something else? Everyone has always been; Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Candor and Amity. wha- how- I just don't get."
I slump down on the ground and put my head between my knees. I could hear Matthew shuffle over and slid down to the ground beside me. He then put his hand on my back, awkwardly rubbing it.
"I understand this is a lot to take in. well, I kinda understand. you should've see the city when we made it official that the factions were over." Matthew says with a small laugh, "We've still got people who are still living their lives as if the factions still exist, protesters too. but overall everyone is doing okay."
I take a deep breathe and look up I've noticed we've attracted some attention. I dry my eyes and stand up.
"Okay I think I'm good," i say and we continue walking.
We get to a set of stairs that lead to the top of the train platform and wait for the train I see it up ahead rushing towards us.
As it comes closer I have an urge to started running, not away but with the train. I decide not to, I can see the train start to slow. by the time it gets to us it stops and we climb on.
We find seats and the train zips down the track towards our destination.
