Chapter 44

Kaia grabbed her purse and headed out to the car as Marian finished saying goodbye to her parents and Faith. She turned when Marian got into the car and then pulled out onto the road.  She got on the freeway, glad there wasn't a lot of traffic. She had lived in California for almost all her life and she still hated driving there.

It didn't take them long to reach Venice Beach. Kaia turned down the street they used to live on and pulled up in front of their old building. "We used to live there," she said pointing to the top level.

"I remember. We had a lot of good times there, I wish we were still there instead of all this craziness," Marian sighed.

Kaia looked up at the door to their old apartment and couldn't help but sigh. "Sometimes I wish that too," she said. "But I'm so grateful you dragged me to that job the day I met Zayn," she said with a small smile. "Do you remember me puking at his feet?" She asked with a small laugh.

"Nope, can't say I do. Sorry, Kaia, only bits and pieces are coming back," Marian said then wondered where he was

"You don't have to apologize," she said and then continued to drive along until she got to a parking lot. She pulled into a stall that overlooked the beach. She turned off the car and then scanned the area to see if she could spot Harry.

He was sitting on one of the concrete walls along a path that led to the beach.

"He's right there," she told Marian pointing him out.

"Thanks," She said nervously.  She didn't want to admit how nervous she actually was to see him in the flesh. Now that her memories were slowing coming back to her.

"Will you be alright?" Kaia asked. "I'll be right over there at 'Beans' getting a coffee," she said.

Marian nodded then got out of the car. She slowly walked over towards Harry.  "You wanted to talk in person. So here I am, now explain yourself," she said trying to keep her tone neutral.

Kaia watched nervously as she watched Marian walk over to Harry and then headed to her old stomping grounds of the coffee shop she had worked at.

Harry looked up when he heard her voice. "Hi," He said with a small smile. "Can we go for a walk?" He asked gently.

"After you talked to me, I don't want to walk anywhere with you. Kaia is right over there so if you try to kidnap me. She will rescue me," Marian said crossing her arms.

Harry glanced over and saw Kaia with a large cup of coffee sitting down at one of the outside tables. He looked at his wife. "Love, I....I'm sorry," he said. "I never did anything maliciously or to hurt you," he said. "We...we were going on so good. We were happy. At least I thought we were. And we'd talked about babies and...I...I stopped using protection and I..." he looked back up at her and could literally see steam coming from her ears. "I honestly didn't think you'd get pregnant," he admitted.

"Admit it you got me pregnant on purpose. You wanted that baby, you wanted to make sure I could never left you again!" 

"Love, no...I..." He stammered. "The doctors said it was highly unlikely that you would get pregnant after your cancer bout. So I wasn't even expecting anything to come from it." He said. "I told you I wanted to be with you regardless if we had children or not." He ran his hands through his hair and he tried to stop the tears from his eyes. "You are my everything and I know I've hurt you by that and I'll forever be sorry for you thinking I deceived you." He felt his heart breaking.

Marian outreached her hand and took Harry's hand in hers. She squeezed it gently.  "I'm sorry, I just wanted you to admit you stopped using condoms on purpose. You wanted a baby."
