Awkward Circumstances, Hateful Circumstances! (Part I)

Awkward.

The silence, the heated staring contest, the sighing and grunting, the constant whispering and the agonizingly slow sound of the ceiling fan, the whole situation in a nut shell could be described in that single word.

But it was no wonder as to how and why the situation became like that. All the students seated in the class had a perfect notion of it, being cocooned into the awkwardness, even the seemingly carefree sensei, Umino Iruka. He was standing there in front of the green board having only written the topic of the lesson but unable to teach due to the dark aura surrounding the two young boys seated near the window, beside each other.

The new exchange student Uchiha Sasuke and the school’s infamous delinquent Uzumaki Naruto.

The whole negative energy had erupted as soon as Sasuke had entered the class. The squealing and giggling of the fan girls had dissipated the moment the eyes of the two mentioned students met. Naruto had not so politely asked sensei as to why the girly teme was in their class, pointing at Sasuke with his foot, arms folded cockily over his firm chest. Seated behind the blonde, Inazuka Kiba, a very attractive dark skinned boy with wild brown hair, narrowed dark eyes had barked out a laugh at his friend’s straight forwardness.

“God, I didn’t know you hated him that much.” Kiba has said patting Naruto’s shoulder.

Sasuke’s eye had visibly twitched at the name and more so when Naruto had smirked.

“Fuck you, asshole”

Sasuke had given his best professional smile.

“Reputation, it’s just for the reputation”

“Looks like my classmate has a little misunderstanding here.” Looking at the blonde boy he had smiled again.

“I apologize if I have offended you in any way um…”

“Naruto” Naruto replied frowning.

“Naruto eh, is that even supposed to be a name?”

“Ah Naruto-san, let’s start anew, ne? Please take care of me.”

“Piss me off again and I’ll rip your balls off you cocky bastard!

Looks like Sasuke’s inner conflict over his blonde classmate wasn’t stopping soon.

Naruto had glared at him without saying anything. Iruka-sensei sensing the odd tension had put in sternly.

“See, Naruto, no hard feelings now okay, Sasuke-kun is a good guy and I hope you take good care of him, the rest of the class too, ok?”

“HAI SENSEI!” had been the combined response.

Only Naruto had preferred looking out the window.

Sighing at the boy’s childish behavior the sensei had looked around for an empty seat.

A very nervous looking smile had appeared on sensei’s face as the only empty seat happened to be beside the one near the window, occupied by none other than Naruto.

“Ahaha looks like you’ll be sitting there, Sasuke-kun.” Umino said, pointing towards the empty chair.

The rest of the class went surprisingly calm. Sasuke had silently sat beside Naruto without complaining and smiling every so often at him, which actually succeeded in giving the blonde goose bumps, not in a good way either. Naruto was getting more and more restless as the seconds ticked by. He couldn’t comprehend the dark eyed boy’s behavior. One minute he was ready to strangle him to death and the next he’s smiling ever so sweetly at him that it’s giving him diabetes. He had tried to concentrate on Iruka-sensei’s lecture but it was so hard to do so when he felt the boy’s eyes on him, but the moment he would glance sideways Sasuke would be scribbling notes innocently as if he hadn’t been glaring holes in his head a moment ago.

He hadn’t meant to but it was hard to ignore his presence. And without knowing it he had been staring at his hands. He would never admit it but he had a... thing for hands, call it a fetish, and now that he actually paid attention the guy had such beautiful hands. It was hard to come across people with hands like that, fair and smooth skin with long slender fingers. The nails trimmed neatly, rounded at the tips. And the way he held the mechanical pencil in those fingers was extremely…exquisite. 

“Oh shit no!” was his reaction when he realized that he had been caught staring. He reluctantly looked up to see the guy flashing him a knowing grin which instantly fueled his anger.

“Son of a…” He whispered loud enough for Sasuke to hear.

“Ahem Naruto, do have something you want to share with the rest of the class.”

“There is not.” He mumbled. God, this was embarrassing. If only this asshole would stop distracting him with those annoying smiles and… hands.

“No, no, not the hands, I’m so not thinking about the hands, Sakura-chan’s are better. Long finger nails… with pink nail polish… without nail polish perfectly cut… and shit!”

“But Iruka-sensei…”

“That’s enough Naruto, stop whining like a brat.”

“Sensei you’ve got to understand, just one class sitting beside him has wrecked my nerves, and I’ll go crazy if this continues.”

“No you won’t, Naruto, you’re just exaggerating everything. And think of it in a positive way, Sasuke-kun is a renowned model and can help you too. Didn’t you say you wanted to become a model or something?”

“That was just to fill that thing, I wasn’t even serious plus I’d rather eat vegetables than take help from that bastard.”

“Naruto, ENOUGH, watch your language. I don’t have time for your childish whining, grow up.”

After class was over Naruto had hurriedly stormed outside after Iruka-sensei, pulled him into an empty hallway and ranted nonstop for about ten minutes to change his seating but all in vain. Iruka sensei had finally exploded at him and walked away leaving a very frustrated Naruto behind.

“Damn it.”  He was really angry now. Iruka-sensei had always been kind to him so why now? He wasn’t even sure why he wanted to get away from the dark eyed boy either. Well his personality was an issue and that fake sickly smile too. Great, now he felt even angrier than before.

After taking a few deep breaths, sighing loudly, he put his hands casually into his pants’ pockets and sauntered over to the classroom.
