Chapter 1

"Jisungggg!! We've been here an hour already! That test thingy isn't even until next Thursday, why don't you just check out the book? I'm tired of waiting!" Jeongin said, head resting on the cold table top of the library.

The whole room smelled old, dusty. A window was open, allowing small gusts of wind to blow around the smell of old books. Jisung quite liked it here. He let out a low hum, waving his hand at Jeongin as he scribbled down another note.

With that, Jeongin let out a groan. "Seriously...can we get ice cream after this at least? And will you let me borrow your notes?" He said, voice quieter now since he was shushed by someone mid sentence. Jisung rolled his eyes, nodding as he tried to focus on the words in the book.

Jeongin made it difficult though, talking and making sound. He was much like a child, easily bored with a place when there too long. But Jisung didn't care, he needed to study. He had to pass this state mandated test or else he'd probably end up in a public school and Jisung was not doing that.

It was quiet, silent as it normally is in a library. Silent like it normally is between Jeongin and Jisung. Jisung was almost finished copying a diagram when his phone buzzed. He grabbed it, reading the text that had just come through.

Mom: Still at the library?

Jisung responded with a yes, as well as mentioning that they would be stopping for ice cream. He didn't get a response back. He closed the text book, eyes tired before picking it up to return it to the shelf. Jeongin clapped softly, wrapping his arms around Jisung in a tight hug.

"Yes! Finally." Jeongin whispered. Jisung smiled and shrugged Jeongin off of him. He grabbed his book bag on the way out, Jeongin following behind him closely.

   His phone then buzzed again.

   Minhoe_ liked your post.

Jisung raised an eyebrow at the unfamiliar username. Usually the same familiar people liked his posts. He didn't have a large social media following at all.

He clicked on the shining notification, waiting patiently for the screen to load as he followed Jeongin out of the library. Jeongin snickered when Jisung slightly tripped over the curb.

His eyes crinkled as he let out a giggle, grabbing Jisung's arm. "You shouldn't walk and text. What if you fall into a man hole..." Jeongin teased with a roll of his eyes.

All Jeongin got in return was a look. Eyebrows slightly raised, one lip puckered out the slightest bit. Jeongin was used to receiving looks from Jisung. He had grown accustomed to deciphering them. And that was a good thing too. Jeongin was Jisung's only friend.

Being homeschooled and selectively mute, Jisung didn't have many social interactions at all. But Jeongin liked the silence, and he liked Jisung. He wasn't a pity friend, and sometimes Jeongin felt like Jisung was his only real friend.

And he was funny too. Jisung had one of the best personalities there could be. He's optimistic, happy, and can always make Jeongin smile. He just doesn't talk.

Finally the screen loaded, but Jisung was already aggravated. His phone could be so slow at times. Especially whenever he wanted something to load.

babyjeongin: How many times did u have to take this before u got it right?
     hanbunny: you* @babyjeongin

Jisung closed the app, shrugging it off. The like probably didn't mean anything, just someone wanting a follow back or a spam. Jisung then bit his lip, maybe Jeongin knew who it was. Quickly he opened Instagram again, clicking on the user. Thankfully the account wasn't private.

Jisung tapped Jeongin's shoulder, showing him the phone and pointing at the photo. He didn't know which boy was "minhoe_" but he just shrugged and hummed, typing into the comment box: "do you know them?"

Jeongin looked at the phone, staring at the photo. He then giggled, turning to Jisung. "You don't know who that is? You know that really rich neighborhood across town, that guy right there---" he pointed at one of the boys, "That's Felix. We used to hang out a lot, but then he started hanging out with him. I forgot his name, and the one with the glasses---uh I don't know who that is?"

Jisung nodded, symboling an 'ok' with his hands to Jeongin as they continued to walk down the sidewalk. They reached the ice cream parlor and Jisung felt happy. He loved ice cream.

After Jeongin told the young man working what the two wanted, Jisung found a small round table to sit at, hands clasped together. In the middle of eating the ice cream and listening to a story Jeongin was telling, Jisung's phone buzzed.

minhoe_ would like to send you a message.

Jisung cleared the notification. He had no idea who this person was or why they would text him, so he just chose to ignore it, listening to his friends story until the rest of his uneaten ice cream melted and they decided to call it a day.
