One shot to your heart without breaking your skin
No one has the power to hurt you like your kin

Xalia POV

I got up from behind the truck, shaking with fear of what I'd just heard. As I slowly got up, I prayed that my worst nightmare hadn't come true. I stood up fully, keeping my scared brother behind the truck. I told him to stay put and walked around slowly.

I was next to the passenger side of the car and saw blood. Once I saw the terrifying sight before me, I dropped to my knees and held my fathers head in my lap, getting his cold blood on my clothes. I screamed at the man in blue who took his life. He just stood there with a smirk on his disgusting face. He then raised the gun and pulled the trigger again, but at my leg. I didn't move though.

I cried loud and hard until the ambulance came. They tried to take him away, but I wouldn't let go. Not now, not ever. They pried and carried me away from him as I screamed his name over and over in pain and wanting for him to come back.

Kept it inside, didn't tell no one else
Didn't even want to admit it to yourself

They laid me in the red truck and stopped the blood gushing from my leg then cover my brothers eyes as they sat him next to me. I grabbed onto his little body and held him for dear life, like I'd loose him too if I let go. He's mine now. He's my responsibility now. I ain't ever letting him go.

One week later

Monse POV

My cousins should be here any second now. Jamal, My dad, and I have been preparing for their arrival, but Caesar and Ruby won't let up on us because we haven't been hanging out with them.

This is kind of a family matter and I mean family as in Jamal knows my cousins so he is allowed to help. I don't want them involved because it's just too sensitive of a situation. My uncle just died and we haven't even had the funeral yet. We haven't had the time to grieve, so having them being here would be too much.

About two hours after school, my doorbell rings. I rush to the door and yank the door open to see Caesar and Ruby. I groan and try to close the door but Caesar blocks it and pushed his way in with Ruby trailing behind him.

"What is going on? Why haven't you spoken to us and why don't you and Jamal come around us anymore?", Caesar said with a hint of anger in his voice. Jamal got up from the couch and came over to us. "Caesar, we really can't get into it right now. This doesn't have anything to do with you or Ruby. It's just a family matter that you aren't apart of." Jamal tried to be as calm as possible.

He's known Xalia as long as I have and she's like family to him, so he was choking back tears at the moment and so was I. "What's going on?", Ruby said. "Please just leave. I can't do this right now. I'll tell you everything tomorrow, just please le-". Xalia and Xion walked in with bags behind them. Jamal and I ran to the door and engulfed them in a hug. Xalia began to cry.

Xalia POV

I opened the door after hearing what sounded like an argument. Once inside, Monse and Jamal came rushing over and pulled Xion and I into a soul crushing hug.

And now your chest burns and your back aches
From 15 years of holding the pain

I hugged back and began crying. I don't know what happened, it's like everything that happened in the passed couple of days just overwhelmed me again and I let it all out. My dad had been struggling to provide for us and after my mom died it got worse. 15 years of struggling and now it's all pouring down on me.

They pulled back as my uncle came over to hug us. "Uncle T!", I screamed as he hugged me. "Baby I'm so sorry I wasn't there." "It's okay. We're fine." After we let go of each other, Monse led me to a small bedroom, but on the way I glanced at a short Hispanic looking boy as he looked at me. We looked at each other rather curiously. We got to the room and she opened the door.

"It isn't much but it's enough space for you and Xion." "It's perfect."

I smiled as I put my clothes in the left drawer and Xion's in the right

I smiled as I put my clothes in the left drawer and Xion's in the right. I put him to sleep on the bed because he was tired from the flight here.

And now you only have yourself to blame
If you continue to live this way

I walked back out and all eyes were on me. Monse came up to me and sat me down on her couch. "Tell me what happened." I hesitated but began to speak. "We were driving home from my performance at school. It was raining and a cop pulled us over. We put our hands on the dashboard once he got to the window." I started tearing up. "Daddy said he didn't want to do this in front us and asked could he get out of the truck. The cop said he didn't care. Daddy yelled and told us to get out and get behind the truck. He got out, but the cop had punched him. We heard someone getting hit and what sounded like something hitting the ground. Then it was silent until I heard a gunshot. I got up, told Xion to stay put and went to the front of the truck and saw him. I dropped to my knees and cried, holding him, watching him take his last breath. The cop just smiled at me then raised the gun at me and shot me. I was covered in blood once the ambulance came." The two Hispanic boys were standing behind the couch as Uncle T, Monse, Jamal, and I sat on the couch. They all looked at the brace on my leg then looked back at me. My uncle had an angry expression on his face. "What was the cops name? I swear I'll make him pay for what he did to you." "I already identified him. The trial is going to be held after the funeral." I got up. "I need to go to bed. I have a funeral to plan." I walked to my new room and went to bed with a tear stained pillow.

Get it together

Monse POV

"This is why I didn't want you to come. The only reason Jamal is here is because he knows Xalia." "Monse, calm down. They were just worried about you." Ruby and Caesar looked sorry, but skeptical. "Who was that?" "My cousins. Their father was shot and killed by a cop a week ago and since their mother died of childbirth, we are their only family left."
