I barely slept that night. I couldn't help but lay awake and daydream of my brother arriving home. The lack of sleep had definitely kicked my butt.
I went to school with a bitter black coffee and forced myself to slurp it down. I hated bitter coffee, but I needed to stay awake in order to catch up on all of my school work.
I weave my way through the other students, most looking as sleep deprived as me, and spotted Macey Jacobs standing in front of my locker with another girl. You know how I said there wasn't much competition in the look department at this school? Well the Jacobs sisters and their friends definitely were competition. Macey and Stacey both had straight platinum blonde hair that reached their waists and very bright green eyes. Their eyes had always been so pretty, I had always wondered if the color was real or were just colored contacts. Where Stacey was curvy and short, Macey was willowy and tall. Stacey reminded me of Marilyn Monroe, while Macey resembled a supermodel. I try not to get jealous, but who doesn't envy the Jacobs sisters.
I came to a stop next to Macey and her chatty friend Kathryn.
"Excuse me," I say as politely as possible. I would hate to learn if Macey could punch just as well as her sister.
"Actually," Macey said stepping towards me. I took a step back. "I wanted to know if you wanted to practice the script after school since you joined the class late and all."
What? She wanted to practice with me? This was probably a trap. And I didn't have any reason to say no. Everyone in school knew who actually had things after school. I'm pretty sure Macey knew I was free and I wasn't about to get on her bad side.
"S-sure." I stuttered. Oh god why did I have to stutter know? I cursed myself. "Where will we meet up?"
"I was thinking the theatre room. You know? We could have the drama kid critique us." Macey smiled like it was a great idea. I wanted to run home. I had never occurred to me actresses acted in front of people. Even worse. Received constructive criticism.
"Great idea," I say as clearly as possible. I plaster on a fake smile and wave as she leaves. I try to bury the feeling of looking for a place to hide after school. Instead it creeps into my thoughts and I regret initiating conversation at all.
