Before, reading on to the sample articles, I'd like to introduce you to some feature writing principles.
As you read on, notice how I use these principles in my writing and later, incorporate them into your own writing as well.
1. First--use verbs more than adjectives.
Actively think of verbs to inject into your article to give your reader a sense of kinetic motion. Instead of 'walked very fast' say 'dashed'.
Instead of saying, 'He talked in an unintelligible way' say 'He stuttered'.
Attack them with verb precision. Later on I'll give you guys a verb list.
2. Avoid adverbs, (gradually, beautifully, gracefully) and replace them with action words. 💪🏃
3. Break your paragraphs into sections to make them more readable. No one likes reading a perpetual BLOCK.
4. Do not write your title beforehand. You'll regret it. Skip the first two lines and start writing your lead.
5.Grammar and clarity are essential. Clarity of thought, and of your message, will foretell if a reader will finish your article or neglect it for eternity.
5. Don't ramble on with the metaphors. Use one and incorporate it into your feature. Take note of the metaphors I use in my articles.
6. Watch out for your sentences. The normal no-clause sentence should have at least 12-18 words to be readable and interesting.
7. Read everyday. Download the blue Inquirer app. It merges all the news platforms in the Philippines for relevant news that will enlighten you on pressing global and national issues today.
If not the news, just read anything you like. Your principles, your values will mold as you interact with what you read. Then, you'll be informed to start writing and finding your own writing style yourself.
----There are more tips but yes, these are all for now. I'll give you a feature article (which is like an endangered species here on the Internet) 'to give you a hands-on idea'/toelaboratee'(see just how short and readable that change was).
****Hey, guys. Last note. Please, please, please 🙏 leave comments so that I can improve my writing and get more motivated to write (and publish) more for you guys. Also comment if you have questions on vocabulary as well! Don't keep me waiting. 😽🙉🧡****
