Onyx and Citrine (Steven Universe au)

The robot

Onyx's POV

              I watched up in my cave as the amethysts lined up, creating the diamond salute.
"She's here," I thought out loud as I jumped down, catching myself and getting in line. The amethysts around me shuffled awkwardly as a periwinkle blue gem walked in between the two lines, her high heeled boots clacking as she walked across the ground.

The Citrine was looking around, doing his best to copy the other gems. I decided to do the same, had to make a good impression on the higher up. Holly Blue walked up to the Citrine and told him to follow her, right after stepping on an Amethyst's foot for slouching. She walked up to me and said, "Follow me."

              I stepped out of line and walked right behind Citrine. He looked nervous, which I could understand. We both just emerged, it was natural to feel nervous. She chose an amethyst with a gem on her right shoulder and one on her chest and led us to the middle of what I later learned was called "The Kindergarten".

             "Pay attention everyone!" Holly Blue yelled as she put me and Citrine on the right side of her, letting everyone get a good look at us. "These are the newest gems created and the only one of their kind! As you can see, they are special in many ways, and not only in looks," she walked a few feet away and traced a line in the ground. "Citrine! Amethyst! Line up right here!"

               Citrine flinched at the call of his name, but went to the line, along with the amethyst with the gem on her shoulder...after talking with the other amethyst to decide which one should go.

              "I want both of you to run to that injector near the entrance and back. Ready. set. Go!" She shouted as they ran off.

              At first they seemed evenly matched, then Citrine did what people from Earth call "kicked into overdrive". He gained a massive speed boost and made it to the halfway point in 2 seconds! When he crossed the finish line, the amethyst just made it to the injector.

                As the amethyst ran back, Holly Blue said, "As you can see, Citrine was designed to be used in close combat and as a scout. Our top scientists made sure that he was given three times the speed of a Jasper charging, allowing him to hit his target before they even know he reached them."

                 The amethyst finally came back, panting hard. Her face was beaded with sweat and her hair was matted to her neck. Holly Blue turned her attention to me and the chest gem amethyst. "Onyx, come here please. Amethyst, wait there."

                I walked up to her and she leaned close to my right ear and whispered, "Pink."

              Right after she uttered that word, I blacked out, but not before hearing, "Now, Onyx is a special gem in a different way than Citrine. Instead of having a certain boost, he was programmed to have a code word that activates his soldier mode, which focuses his mind on one goal! Granting the user full power over him, the perfect gem weapon against the dreaded Chrystal Gems!"
