The wind blew gently through my golden coat, sending a chill down my spine. I smiled, listening to it's whistling through my ears, into my mind and whirling around in my thoughts. Looking beyond the green hills that were now my home, I smiled. How could anything be more perfect? The night sky beamed with a billion night lights, as we called them, and no humans were seen for miles. The biggest night light was full tonight, and it's light pierced through the darkness, as if a blazing fire. My herd stood and grazed quietly, feeling safety through my presence. My mother, a dark bay that was nearly black colored horse stood silently, watching with me. This, this was where I was supposed to be. Here, with my family, roaming the hills and chasing the sun, I will always belong here. With that thought, I reared a wild rear, whinnying so loud it may have shook the earth off of its orbit, and slammed my powerful hooves back onto the ground with happiness. My herd noticed and whinnied back, only soft, beautiful whinnies that sounded like songs to my soul. I smiled and decided to scout again, watching for any danger such as bobcats or wolves. Highly alert, as usual on my scouts, I trotted into and through a dense forest that neighbored my valley. Mist slugged through the trees and dew sprinkled the grass and plants. With the moon shining bright and eating away the darkness, the forest look pretty. Almost beautiful. If it weren't for the evil presences I knew occupied this area. One was here already. He was waiting. But no, this one was a loner. I watched him stare at me, as if he was peaceful, but then snapped back to my senses. He's a wolf, and I'm a horse! We're not near peaceful. As that thought slipped through my mind, I heard a twig snap and a fail at a fierce growl. Smirking evilly, I watched as a small gray wolf, about twice the size of a coyote, strut into my view. Whinnying, I reared to stomp him and crush him to pieces, but instead of a challenging growl, a whimper and a yelp escaped his lips. Frowning, I lowered myself down without harming him. "Who are you to be a wolf that does not accept a challenge to fight?" I ask, confused that he's afraid. He could easily take down a horse. He gave me a strange glance and lowered his head shamefully. "I am not like the others. I believe in peace and prosperity." He replied softly. I stared at him for a second. This wolf, an animal of which is considered to be a beast in children's tales, was asking for peace. Thinking about it for a second, I paused before speaking. "Any animal that would otherwise be considered beast-like and yet asks for peace is welcome in my herd." I said with a respectful nod. With a sharp tone, I added, "Although, if you ever decide to even touch one of us, I will chase your death to the ends of the green hills faster than I chase the sun," I snorted at that and led him swiftly back to the herd, eager to introduce him to them.
