Chapter 8: Powers Galore

"I would think very carefully about what you're going to do next." Efren says.

"We just want the child." The leader says.

"Why?" I demand.

They chuckle.

"Have you not felt the power coming off of him? He's a crystal-user, or at least crystal-sensitive." They say.

My fingers tighten around my swords. If they weren't getting him before, they definitely weren't getting him now. They seemed to notice that little gesture, because they chuckle. The lead one spins the gun he had in his hand before catching it, and aiming it at us. The people following him follow his lead.

It was two against more than two, but Efren and I were a pretty good team. I narrow my eyes. They all start firing. I dodge the first blast, then start blocking the other blasts with my sword. Efren and I make our way towards the people.

When we reach them they start panicking. I manage to kill the ones who weren't the leader with Efren, and then Efren grabs the guy who was the leader and holds his sword in front of the leaders throat. I make my way towards the front of the leader. I stood in front of him.

"So buddy we want some information." I say.

"Well you're crazy if you think I'm going to tell you anything." The guy says.

I let out a giggle.

"You think we're giving you a choice." I say, then my hand shoots out and grabs his head.

I'm thrown into his mind. I shuffle through all the useless things in his mind. I find stuff about Big Brother and I scan those quickly. When I find the ones I needed I pull out of his mind. The guy was left breathing heavily.

"I didn't know crystal-users could do that. I knew they could do it with other crystal people, but not normal people." The guy breathes.

"I'm kind of special." I say, then I feel like my body wasn't mine.

I knew my eyes were black with stars right now, but it passed quickly.

"The revenants of Big Brother are trying to establish a base to rebuild their empire, but with crystal people leading it. They're looking for crystal children." I say.

Efren nods.

"So while you're doing your trials we have something else to keep us occupied. . . great." Efren says.

I felt myself stumble.

"Skye?" Efren asks.

He quickly disposes of the guy, then races over to me. I clutch his arm. I felt the crystal force filling me up. My whole being felt like I was floating in the vacuum of space surrounded by nothing. Pulsating pain raked through my body.

I screamed. I heard a raspy voice in my head. The voice seemed to reach every corner of my brain, and it raked its claws against it. I screamed some more. When the voice spoke to me I felt blood oozing out of my ears and nose.

"First trial done. Success." The voice says, then I arrive back to where I had left.

Efren was holding me and we were splayed on the ground.

"Skye?" Efren asks.

I feel his hands covering my ears and nose.

"What happened?" I ask.

"You fainted. Your eyes went black and starry. Then blood started coming out of your ears, and nose." Efren says.

"I didn't say anything?" I ask.

"No. Why?" Efren asks.

"I heard something in my head." I say.

"What?" Efren asks.

"First trial done. Success." I say.

"I think we both know what that means." Efren says.

I nod. Efren stands up, then holds his hand out to me. I take it, then help pull myself up. When I fully stood up I got a head rush. I stumbled and Efren caught me.

"Hey, hey, hey. Are you good?" Efren asks.

I clutch his arm while I steady myself, and wait for it to pass. When it does I nod.

"Yeah I'm okay." I say.

"Alright. Lets head back to where Theo and Saja are." Efren says.

I nod. We head back to where Theo and Saja split apart from us. We headed into the building and looked for them. Efren eventually found them, and we headed over to them. We reached them.

"Theo, did you find anything out?" Efren asks.

Theo hands Saja back over to me. I took him and he got comfortable in my arms.

"I found out where his Aunt is." Theo says.

"Great. Where is she?" Efren asks.

"Saja came the wrong way. She's in a different town opposite of the way this town is." Theo says.

"Alright. How are we going to get there?" Efren asks.

"Some people volunteered to drive. They're family friends." Theo says.

"Alright. Lets go. Where are they?" Efren asks.

"They're this way." Theo says and leads the way.

Efren follows and I follow Efren carrying Saja. Theo leads us to a few people towards the wall.

"Are we ready to go?" They ask.

We nod. They lead us out of the building, and to a hover car. We get in. I buckle Saja into a car seat, and then Theo and I squeeze into the back with Efren. We head away from town.

I closed my eyes and exhaustion crept over me. I had fallen asleep pretty quickly. My sleep was filled with a dream. It wasn't a dream that made sense, but I was used to those kinds of dreams. I was under water for some reason, but I could breathe.

My crystal was glowing lighting my space around me. I looked around and saw a bunch of shrapnel on the ground. I looked closer at it, and saw that it was the Spector.
