Chapter 9: Stop and Stare

Hello everyone to another chapter of "Light My Fire." Finally, right? Man, I had such writer's block with this chapter. Even after I have figured out what to write, I was just not completely satisfied with the original chapter 9. So, I wrote another scenario for this chapter, and then got stuck once more. I already planned out chapter 10, and I tried to tie the new chapter 9 with chapter 10 and I stuggled. Yeah, that happened, but I finally did it!

So, without further ado, let's get started! As always, I hope all of you enjoy!

Lucy squealed with joy, taking that first bite of a slice of the world famous apple pie found right at the heart of Sparks. She can feel the smiles of the people around, and it was quite embarrassing. But this pie is freaking delicious. The apples coated with cinnamon that just warms the heart by its mouthwatering aroma contained within a light flaky golden brown crust. To top of this whole dessert, a large scoop of a silky vanilla ice cream perfectly resting right in the middle of this pie.

This apple pie was just so dang good that having one slice was just not enough. Why not buy the whole eleven inch diameter apple pie? It was really excessive and an impulsive purchase indeed. But Lucy was glad that she actually bought enough so she can share with the others.

Thinking about sharing this wonderful pie left this odd pain in her heart. Lucy did not believe that she should be feeling upset. It's not like they were trying. Besides, Natsu was always the type of person who would just sit around after all, and Happy would always be by his partner's side. Not to mention the fact that these guys at like slobs, but even that would be an understatement.

It's funny. Here she was, with a seriously great pie right in front of her and a nice, cozy atmosphere to accompany her perfectly peaceful mood, and all she could think about was anything else. Heck, he's just not "anything else." This is Natsu Dragneel she was talking about: a fun loving, happy-go-lucky, stubborn to a fault, and hot-headed person that she is grateful to call her partner. Most of all, he's always there for her...

In all honestly, Lucy was still a bit shaken from this morning's events. She was going to die. Near death experiences were not new, but each and every time was more painful than the last, leaving these scars to her mentality, and her heart. There were days when these memories surface out of the blue, and the fear was there once more.

Do not be mistaken though. Never in her life did Lucy ever regret risking her very being to protect the innocent and her dear friends. It was just...hard for her to go through these nightmares.

In the end, no matter how many times she would experience these horrifying flashbacks, Lucy would always remember the reason why she was still alive, enjoying the best apple pie ever. Her friends would always be there for her, especially Natsu. She would never be able to thank him for everything in a single lifetime; from the moment she joined the guild to this present day, when he protected her from the raging beast. All of it was especially thanks to Natsu.
