~Auburn
"Auburn. I need you to stay for inventory tonight." My boss Terry said walking to his office. No, that just won't do.
"Terry, no I can't stay. I have to get home. Working from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. is already a problem." I followed behind him into his office.
"Either you want this job or not, I could always find a replacement." He shrugged. "Shall I start looking or are we clear?"
"We're clear." I mumbled, it's always an idle threat. The day he finds somebody better than me will be the day hell freezes over.
"I don't think I heard you. What was that?" He smirked.
"I said we're clear." I repeated and walked off to the bar.
I'm Auburn Turner, and bartending here at Onyx is the worst. My boss Terry is a dick. I hate the way he talks to people, but I need a job so I can't say anything. He doesn't know I have a 6 year old daughter waiting for me back at my apartment. I need to call my neighbor, Levi to see if he could watch her. I pray to God he's home right now.
I pulled out my phone and went to the back so Terry wouldn't catch me. I dialed his number and waited for him to answer."Speak to me." He answers and I feel a surge of happiness.
"Who answers the phone like that?" I laugh.
"I do female. What can I do for you?" He laughs.
"Can you please keep an eye on Heaven for me? Tonights inventory at the club and I'm stuck." I beg.
"Chill. you know I have no problem with it. I'll have Britt go get her now." I heard them in the background going back and forth. They are the cutest, funny as hell when they get into it.
"Thank you so much. If I come home too late, I'll get her tomorrow. Love you guys and give her a kiss for me."
"Don't worry about it, we love Heaven, just be safe out there." With that he hung up.
I know Heaven is safe with them, they were the first people I met when we came to Atlanta. They are the nicest couple, and they have both become very close friends of mine. The day I moved here, was so funny, four months ago, but it feels like just yesterday.
"Levi you are such an asshole. Get the hell away from me." I heard a woman yelling in the apartment next door.
I won't intervine, keep to yourself Auburn, leave it alone. I told myself as I brought another box inside.
"Britt, you need to chill, I wasn't even fuckin with that girl." He yelled back. Fuck it, my ass must go see.
I knocked on the door and heard smashing and then it stopped. Soon a tall brownskin man opened the door. He looked to be about 5'9" and he looked pissed. I almost turned to leave but changed my mind.
"Can I help you?" He asks annoyed.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't help but overhear all the yelling. Is everything okay?" I ask calmly."See Britt, your ass yelling so damn loud got the neighbors knocking on the door and shit!" He yelled which caused me to take a step back. "You must be the one moving in next door. I'm Levi King and this crazy ass woman is Britt King." He said as she walked up.
Britt looked to be about 5'5" but she was really pretty. She was white with a slight country accent. She has long blondish hair with brown highlights. Standing together, they are so cute together.
"We're sorry for all the yelling. He's just such a dick sometimes. What's your name?" Britt asks.
"I'm Auburn Turner and my daughter's name is Heaven, she's asleep." I give an apologetic smile and turned to leave.
