Alaska's POV
The smell of hospital instantly made me feel sick to my stomach, the bad memories flooding my head as I sink down in the chair opposite my doctor.
"Alright, blood work is looking good, nothing abnormal in your case. Any questions?"
I shake my head, getting ready to leave.
"Oh, I just remembered, I heard from a colleague that a hospital in the US is starting with a treatment that possibly could be interesting in your case. It won't make you cancer free but it'd most likely give you a few months maybe even years if you chose to go with it. The only thing is that it won't be free and I'm not gonna lie, healthcare in America is far from cheap" He looks through a drawer, pulling out a booklet together with a few papers, pictures of people in hospital beds covering the fronts of them. "Take these with you and have a think, it could maybe be an alternative, if you've got the money that'll say"
Shaking my hand does he hand me the pile that he'd collected and I quickly inhale, this whole thing suddenly becoming very real.
"Alright, take each day as it comes from now on. You're doing better than I expected actually so I would probably add a couple of months to your life expectancy"
It made me smile and I kept that smile all the way back to Jack and Conor's knowing that it would make my beloved boyfriend so incredibly happy.
The boys' flat was messy as usual and I just dump my heavy bag in the hallway, turning the light on in the meantime.
"Conor?!"
A smile grew on my lips as I waited for him to show up but to my disappointment he doesn't answer.
"Conor's out, thought he said he'd texted you"
Jack pulls his hand through his messy hair to sort it out. It was clear that he'd just woken up, something that didn't surprise me at all to be completely honest.
"No, he said he'd be back in at five"
I go to search through my bag for my phone, wanting to check the text that Conor had sent me a few hours ago.
"I'm pretty sure he's doing that live stream right now"
My heart instantly starts racing in my chest. Conor and I had started our own little routine after my treatments and it did in fact involve cuddles from the man himself.
"Look, he said he'd be on at five"
Jack points at my phone screen and I nod in silence. I had in fact read it wrong which meant Conor wouldn't be back in at least a few hours.
"Guess I'm going back to mine then"
I sigh, hoping Jack hasn't noticed the pain in my voice as I go to pick my bag and jacket up from the floor.
"If that's what you want, you can stay here if you like"
It would probably be smarter to stay here in case I'd start to feel worse but right now I just want to cuddle up in bed and cry on my own.
"Thank you Jack but I think I'd do good with just going home for a bit"
He nods bidding me goodbye with a hug.
***
I'm shivering even though I'm under at least two sets of blankets, my body freezing cold.
Conor had called me earlier and since he kept complaining about how exhausted he felt after the livestream had I not had the balls to tell him I was feeling ill. He needed time to himself too and I know he talked about going out with the rest of the boys tonight.
