my eyes flicker open in response to a light tap on my cheek. the first thing i see is jimin, centimetres away from my face, peering at me with slightly wide eyes. he moves away and smiles.
"you're awake! we're here now."
i look out of the bus window to see a long strip of sand bordered by overlapping waves, gently bouncing into each other.

the other day when me and jimin we're together after school, we got onto the topic of how i had never been to the beach before. he was absolutely astounded, and demanded he would take me to the beach as soon as possible. hence why this morning at god knows in the morning, jimin was pounding on my door and ordering me to get up because "we're going to experience life".

i look out and see that the beach is empty, probably because it is winter right now and quite cold. the deep abyss of water is calm, a crisp clear sky behind the repeating ripples.

as we get of the bus, i'm hit with the shockingly cold air as it pierces every inch of exposed skin. i immediately start to shiver. jimin notices, frowns and takes my icy hands in his warm ones. when my strong shivers still
don't cease, he takes of his scarf and gently puts it around my neck before unzipping his coat.
"jimin, don't do that, you'll be colder than me." i say, trying to make his hands zip it up again. instead of obeying me, he pulls me close to him by my waist and places the unzipped side of the coat over my shoulders so that we're sharing it. i hold it over me, my body temperature instantly increasing as i can feel jimins radiating onto my side.

after walking for a little like this, i get warm enough to return his coat after i notice he starts shivering himself. i carry on walking down the beach, my feet gently sinking slightly into the grains of sand. i stop after i realise jimin isn't following me and turn around to see a polaroid camera in return. i smile it him and the flash goes off.
"what're you doing? you'll get cold if you stay still." i call over to him. he lowers the camera and takes out the film, shakes it about and eventually a smile develops on his face along with the photo. upon further investigation it seems that jimin has taken at least four other photos, a collection growing in his hands. he puts them in his backpack along with the camera itself and then runs over to me. it looks like he's going to run into me, but instead he reaches out his arms and grabs before spinning us around until my surroundings become a blur, the only thing clear to see being his excited smile.

we carry on walking along the beach, our hands warming each other's, not a sight to be seen. jimin leads me down to the waters edge.
"i dare you to touch it." he says, looking at me devilishly.
"pffft, what sort of dare is that? it's only water." i say boldly back at him before reaching down and plunging my entire hand into the water.
the water feels as if it's cutting my hand like a knife, even for the split second it was in it before i pulled it out again. i've never felt something so cold before, so cold it physically hurts.
i jump about on the spot whilst waving my hand, trying to get some of the mild warmth that i had back. jimin starts to laugh, but after a few minutes he takes my hand in both of his.
"woah, your hand is really really cold. maybe i shouldn't have dared you to do that." he says, a sorry smile on his face.
but after five or so minutes of him rubbing my hand and telling it to warm up (he bent down and spoke directly to my hand, which he says would work) my hand was considerably warm again.

after that, we walk around some more and he takes more photos, some of me and some of the landscape. we also get to talk about our childhoods more, and how jimin always used to come to the beach with his grandparents.
"i always used to be embarrassed, having to go around with my slow old grandparents. but now, id love it." he had said whilst laughing.
before we knew it, it's now time to walk back to the bus stop.

when we get there, the bus is already waiting for us. we get on and sit down, instantly feeling ten million times warmer.
"what time is it?" i ask as we start to move.
jimin turns on his phone so i can see. but instead, i'm drawn to his lockscreen, not the time.
it's one of the photos of me we took earlier. my knees are bent and it looks like i was laughing, a huge smile on my face. but the next thing that stands out to me is the stark blue waters setting the perfect backdrop for the photo.
