Bucky pulled Steve out of the water hoping to God that he was still alive.
God?
Where the hell was God when Hydra had taken him?
✕Powered by DNSUnlockerHe had somehow unknowingly stopped believing in God the first time they wiped him and he lost half of himself. He didn't feel sad about the loss because he didn't know what he had forgotten. But when he saw Steve letting him beat the crap out of him, he knew.
This blonde man, capable of lifting cars with one hand and quite possibly punch the Winter Soldier into next Thursday had decided not to hurt him. It hurt Bucky's heart to think that Hydra had made him forget this friend, the friend who would quite possibly give his life to save his friend even though he was a merciless assassin.
Bucky was pulled out of his inner babble as Steve took a ragged breath and coughed twice and then fell back down, unconscious. Bucky made sure he was breathing before preparing to walk away.
Was he forgetting something? Or someone?
And then he panicked. Where is Sophie?
He looked around, half expecting to see her walking up to him but she didn't. Then he saw a red fluid in the middle of the lake with bubbles forming in them.
Following his instincts, Bucky dived into the water and went straight below the spot where the red fluid was floating.
He continued swimming downwards and then, to utmost relief and horror, he saw her.
She was tangled in the weeds, her mouth open, no bubbles coming out of her nose or mouth.
Bucky wasted no time in pulling out his pocket knife and hacking away the weeds and pulling her to the surface. He carried her seemingly dead body into the woods and when he was sure nobody was near by and that Steve or anybody else couldn't hear them, he placed her on the ground.
"Sophie?" Bucky whispered to her as she didn't reply.
"Sophie please," Bucky pleaded again, "you're scaring me now."
Bella lay still, not even moving a finger. Bucky lightly felt for her pulse and when he became positive that she was still alive, he flipped her around so that she was on her stomach and turned her head to ensure her mouth was clear to draw a breath.
He then pressed her back hard and saw water trickling out of her mouth. He pressed harder and this time he used the strength of his metal arm.
"Breathe, Sophie," whispered Bucky. "Please. Don't die."
As Bella was walking out of the Hydra facility, shaking slightly after watching the Winter Soldier being wiped, a man in Hydra uniforms stopped her.
"Show your device," he said coldly.
"Device?" Bella replied in surprise.
"You haven't had yours installed yet? Come here."
The man walked Bella to another room where a man wearing a white coat was working.
"She doesn't have her device yet," the man said to the white coated fellow.
"Ah," replied the man. "Sit down. I am Doctor Vudis. I invent stuff. Just hold your hand out, like so."
Bella held out her left hand, completely unaware of what was about to happen.
