Fifty-Two Cards

Prologue- The Theory

Ares walked into the cafe and yelled, "I JUST HAD A MAJOR EUREKA MOMENT!" Nyah rolled her eyes, and Jenn laughed. Ares did this on a regular basis. As Ares sat down at their regular table, Nyah and Jenn saw her eyes sparkling and her sweaty forehead. Jenn asked, "Hold up- did you just run here to tell us whatever you found so important?" Ares nodded, taking deep breaths. She said, "I have a theory. I think Ace," she emphasized, wiggling her eyebrows, "likes one of us. As more than just the friends we've tried to be."

Nyah suddenly showed interest. Despite her maturity, she loved a little bit of drama. She asked, "Any guesses as to whom?"

Jenn rolled her eyes. She commented, "Poor, poor, Ace. The sad boy doesn't even know that you have such crazy ideas about him in your heads. Are you jobless?"

Nyah and Ares giggled. As Nyah said, "Ooh, think it's you, Ares?", she smirked, and Ares rolled her eyes. She replied back, saying, "You know, Ace doesn't just follow anyone to the subway without waiting for the others..."

Nyah leaned over to try and smack Ares, but Ares got away, and laughed. All Jenn did was look on at their camaraderie, silently appreciating their wacky, crazy dynamic. She knew that without it, their little squad could never work as smoothly as it did.

Ares walked over to get their orders, and they picked up their stuff to go to Jenn's house, which was considered the halfway meetup point to all their homes. Nyah was always the last to leave. She was so clumsy with her stuff. As Nyah walked to the door (while still packing her stuff), her copy of White Fang fell from her overfilled hands, and a random girl walking in helped her pack her bag completely.

Jenn couldn't miss the blush on their cheeks as Nyah thanked her, and the girl's lingering look at Nyah too.
