The "Cards" are a group of 52 humanoids spread throughout the United States, who look like normal people through the eyes of humans, but in reality the Cards are many animal-like creatures that each have a tattoo-like symbol somewhere on their bodies to represent the type of Card they are.

The Cards all have a number or rank (2,3,4/Jack, Queen, King, etc.) And depending on how high of a number or rank they have it will determine how their lives will play out.

For example, a 2 (doesn't matter if it is a diamond, heart, spade, or club) will generally live in poverty and recieve small amounts of money.

An Ace (again, doesnt matter what type of Ace) generally ends up being born into a wealthy family and will normally take part in family buisnesses.

The only ones that can see the Cards' true forms are other Cards,  and there has never been an acception to this.

When one Card dies another Card of the exact same type (but different animal) will be born almost immediately to take its place to ensure that there will always be 52 cards, no two cards are the same animal either.

The reason these Cards exsist is to ensure that the humans will be able to keep track of and fix problems within their communities (like dealing with poverty, or paying rich people a little less money) but much to their disappointment, the humans just seem to be pushing those problems aside, meaning that the Cards are not able to move to other places to fix them either.
