45 minutes ago, my cover was blown and they are still chasing me down the lengthy streets of Manhattan. Every time I turn the corner and think I am out of sight, there they are, just a matter of ten feet behind me. I keep running. I can’t waste another second or they will have me and I might as well be dead. I know what they want. Me. Dead. I’ve been too much of a threat already and if I continue to live, I will be a danger to their final plan. What that plan is, I may never know. What I do know is that its something big. Something bigger than all of us and if I don’t keep running, the whole world might as well be dead.
I keep running with hope that they won’t catch me. My small frame allows me to run quite quick but their large legs allow them to gain speed on me. I turn on just about every corner I pass hoping to lose the men chasing me, but it never works. I’m positive people are watching as I hopelessly try to escape, yet none of them have the courage to stop the madness.
As I continue to sprint down the busy sidewalk of the heavily populated city, I begin to feel my muscles ache in my legs. Adrenaline was able to get me this far, but it must be wearing off. I needed to stop running, otherwise I was going to collapse to the ground in agony. So, as I turned yet another corner, I slid my body inside the small shop to my right before the men had time to come around the corner.
I caught my breath for a moment before meeting my eyes with the terrified looks of what appeared to be the store’s owner.
“I need to hide,” I said to the woman before me.
Without questioning me, she ran to the door and locked it before tugging me along to the storage space of her small clothing store.
“I’ll be right back. Don’t move.”
I did as she said and sat down where she left me. A few moments later, she came back with a pile of clothes in her hand.
“These should fit you,” she said before handing me the clothes I needed to help escape my enemies.
She left the room so I could put on my new clothes, but I could tell by her shadow that she was just outside the door. I took a deep breath and relaxed, but then I heard the most dreadful and powerful sound. Gunshot. They had found me and I had to run.
I found the back entrance to the storage room and ran out as fast as I could, looking for a new hideout where they would be sure to not find me. I turned to my left, running for the shop at the end of the corner, when two massive hands caught my waist. I knew, in that very moment, I had been captured.
I went to scream, but no sound came out, probably due to whatever it was the large man injected me with right before I opened my mouth. I was shoved into the backseat of a black Range Rover and buckled in by the same large man that grabbed me, as if he was concerned for my safety.
My eyes began to feel very heavy and I felt like I was falling asleep. I turned and looked both ways and at some point, my arms and legs had been tied down. I don’t remember that. I suddenly felt so uncomfortable, but the feeling, being strapped up like this, had a familiar feeling to it.
I could hear the two men in the front seat of the car talking, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. Their voices frightened me, but they gave me a warm feeling of relief at the same time. I felt like I knew them, but I had never seen them before.
I continued to ponder my thoughts when my eyelids became too heavy and I drifted off to sleep. Suddenly I was in a bright white room, and I realized, it was all a hallucination. They always brought me back at the most inconvenient times.
After opening my eyes, the two men before me had stopped chatting, more like arguing, over whatever the topic of conversation was. They both just stared at me, as if this time was different from any other. It really was the same every time they pulled me back into this dull life of bright white rooms and medication.
“I wanna go back to sleep,” I said nonchalantly, trying to get one of the men to speak. One of the two men was my doctor, who tried his best to keep me in the real world. The other was my dad. He cared. A lot. The real problem was that I didn’t care enough, and I never would. I would always desire to be back in my alternate reality, fighting the crimes like I always did.
Now, due to their terrible timing, I would have to wait until tomorrow to face my kidnappers. Until then, I was stuck in a room with two men who thought I was the crazy one.
