Prologue
A girl stepped out of a car staring blankly at the building before her, she turns around to face her driver,
"Thanks mom, this means a lot, Mom," She hugs her mother with a warm embrace, barely reaching her through the other side of the car.
"Don't forget-"
"I know, I know."
"Bye Lis, remember to behave and make friends."
"Okay Mom, love ya."
The car door closed softly as Amaryllis walked toward the school. She took brief glances at the school lawn littered with people socializing studying every movement before she finally entered the school. Despite holding a paper map of the school, Amaryllis wasn't able to find her class until 30 minutes after the first late bell rung, she entered her classroom and sat down confused, looking for the teacher. After finally realizing that the teacher was nowhere near, she sat down and immediately looked at another student right next to her caught in the act of glancing by her direction.
"Uh, sorry I didn't meant to- I mean I didn't mean- I just didn't"
"It's okay, no big deal"
Almost immediately Amaryllis notices his physical complexion contradicts his current way of acting, sharp eyes with a timid voice, a straight posture with a casual jacket, 'none of it lines up' she thought.
"So, um, nice to meet you, my name's Elijah," he extends his hand towards Amaryllis and she extends hers, Elijah keeps his hand on top of Amaryllis' as they shake each other's hands.
"Nice to meet you Elijah, my names Amaryllis, you can call me whatever you please."
A few hurried stomps slowly get closer to the room before a very outgoing looking man in his mid twenties comes flying into the room, rambling about traffic and freshmans before taking a brief look at the class in silence as all the students look at him, phones already put away.
"Nice to know you all still remember the rules from last year."He muttered, "for the new kids here, my name is Mr. Price, I taught the freshman population last year and I moved up with them because they kept complaining to the principal to stay with them until he finally had enough." He smiled as the students in the back smiled back.
"...Jordan's skipping like always... Christine? No Christine? That just makes it easier for me..." He muttered to himself as he left the box next to her name empty.
"Amaryllis?"
"I'm here."
"Alright, there's like 20 minutes left of class, and I'm not in the mood to say a speech that you'll hear in every class; in short, Be Ready, Respectful and responsible everywhere you go and yada yada. You guys are free to talk or whatever."
Amaryllis and Elijah talked for the remainder of the class, they small talked, then doodled together, then finally made nicknames for each other, calling one another Amy and Liam, although he insisted that he not be called that name but there was no stopping Amy no matter how hard he tried. The bell rang and the attempts to avoid that nickname were stopped before Liam could change Amy's mind were cut instantaneously.
Amaryllis walked the hallways until she finally found her spanish class. She didn't know anyone so she had small talk with the teacher until it was time to move to her next class. She walked to her art class where she barely made it into her seat once she sat down. A few seconds after she was well adjusted in her seat, she saw Liam head into the class. He looked around and froze for a moment before looking down.
