The ash blonde teenager sat at the desk in her room, head in her hands. A soft knock on her door came around 5 pm, and the familiar voice of Soul could be heard.

"Maka, dinners ready." He told said girl, but when she just shook her head, he frowned and walked over to his Meister.

"How come you're not eating? It's not good for you Maka. As your partner and your boyfriend I won't let you starve yourself, it's totally uncool." Soul reminded her.

Maka then managed a small smile as she picked her head up. "Sorry Soul," she apologized, "what's for dinner?"

Soul held out his hand, which Maka took, and flashed a certain fanged smile that Maka came to love.

"I guess you'll just have to find out." The white haired boy replied.

Maka's companion then led her into the kitchen, where a set table awaited with candles and a tablecloth.

"Wow Soul, you did this?" Maka asked, feeling her cheeks heating up.

Soul nodded, and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah I know, totally cool of me." A grin spread across his face as he pulled out a chair for his Meister.

A year ago today, Maka would never have believed someone if they told her she was going to date Soul "Eater" Evans. He was so obnoxious and was constantly making fun of her, mainly for caring about school, and to add to that he always called her "Tiny tits".

But as they fought many battles against the Kishin, their bond between Weapon and Meister grew stronger, as did their feelings for one another.

It wasn't until one day in late December, on one cold night, did Soul tell Maka how he truly felt about her. The memory then began to replay in her head...

-

"Great job Soul." Maka said to her partner after successfully taking out a Kishin.

"You too, Maka." Soul told her before transforming back into his human form and eating the soul that was left behind.

"You know, we're almost to 99 souls again..." He trailed off, starting to walk side by side with Maka.

"Hm?" Soul turned his head to look at his partner.

Maka was stopped in the middle of the road as snowflakes began to dance their way out of the sky and land in her blonde hair. Her cheeks were a light shade of pink from exposure to the cold wind that seemed to make the snow dance further, in little tufts.

"She's so beautiful..." Soul thought to himself - or, at least he thought he did.

Maka's eyes widened at his statement. "He couldn't possibly have..." The girl thought, "no way he would call me beautiful." But, letting her curiosity get the better of her, Maka asked Soul what he said.

Soul felt his cheeks get hot and he looked down at the ground.

"Oh.My.Lord.Death. I said that out loud?!" He internally screamed at himself,

"You're so stupid, Soul! Oh Death...this is totally NOT cool! Do I lie and act like I said nothing? No, she probably would call me a liar and Maka-chop me! But I can't tell her...I mean...what if she thinks I'm creepy?" Another voice then argued in his head, "Yeah but honesty is the best policy," He started arguing with himself, "Shut up, you!" "But you know I'm right Soul..."

Soul grit his teeth.

Maka looked at him with concern as he looked troubled, and was thankful for the cold so her rosy cheeks masked the massive blush that she was sure she had on her face.

"Uh, Soul..?"

"Look, Maka. You're really beautiful...and I don't really understand why I was such an asshole to you before. I'm sorry, and I really like you. Like, a lot. I don't want to ruin our friendship though.. so I mean, if you don't feel the same-" Soul started to say, but was interrupted by Maka running full force at him. He flinched, expecting a Maka-chop, but was instead met with a tight hug, her face buried in his chest.

Shocked, he wrapped his arms around her as Maka lifted her head from his chest.

"I really like you too Soul!"

Her forest green eyes seemed to sparkle as she said this, leaving Soul breathless. He only hesitated slightly before leaning down to press his lips to hers...

-

"Maka?" Soul asked, waving a hand in front of her eyes, a bit worried.

"Y-Yeah? Sorry! I was lost in thought." Maka apologized again, a grin on her face that seemed to be contagious.

Soul chuckled a bit at his girlfriend before taking her hand from across the table. "Right. Anyway," He began and picked up his glass of grape juice, clinking it to her teacup gently, "Maka, its that one month where you are the same age as me, so you should enjoy it while you can." The boy smirked, "Happy birthday. I love y-" he stopped when he saw a tear slip down her cheek. "Maka, what is it..?"

Maka frowned but then managed a smile. "The last time I celebrated my birthday was when Mama was still with Papa. Thank you so much Soul.." She was quiet and the fanged boy got out of his seat and knelt down next to her chair.

"You're welcome," Soul said as he flashed his grin again and wiped her tears gently away with his thumb. He then he kissed the scythe master to be.

"I love you Maka Albarn. With all my heart and well...soul." The boy stated with a smirk, getting up from the ground swiftly after.

As Maka giggled, her laughter sounded like tinkling bells to him and he felt it suited her.

"I love you too, Soul Evans."
