"Mike!!" I exclaimed after finding my younger brother on the floor. I attempted to reach him but, before I could, someone lurched forward and struck me in the jaw.
My vision began to waver as a second blow met my temple. Before I could refocus it, they had me plummeting, face forward, to the cement. When my face came into contact with the icy clod concrete, I heard the sickening crunch of a bone. Warm blood spurted through my nostrils and out my nose in an instant; my nose was definitely broken. As if the nose wasn't bad enough, my side came into contact with a large rock, bruising for sure. The pain was intensifying as my attacker sent multiple blows to my ribcage. It was get up or black out.
Finally, I caught one of their legs, pausing the fit of blows, and pulled them to meet the cement. Suddenly standing caused my head to spin and I was struck with a wave of nausea. That didn't stop me from grabbing the rock my side had hit and jumping at the attacker before they could regain composure. Once I was sure I had time, I lifted my brother to my shoulders and ran as fast as I could.
I got a few blocks away from the creep and had to check on my brothers wounds. So I lifted him off my shoulders and examined him. His head was busted, but the bleeding was slower than preveousely. I removed my shirt to wrap around his head wound, only to be struck with the harsh, winter winds. Oh the joys of Detroit. I was shivering intensely by now, but that would soon be a problem solved when I had to carry my brother the long distance to our, very much rundown apartment. A place so broken, I couldn't call it home.
Finally reaching the apartment, I hastily fiddled with the key. Though it took thirteen tries, it opened. I ran in and set my shivering brother onto the mat I had created for him to use as a bed. I don't have much, it was all I could afford. If there was anything I did own, it was a much needed first aid kit. After patching up his head wound and multiple skid marks the cement caused, it was time for me to deal with my own wounds. Picking up the first aid, I ran over to the cracked, yet doable mirror we owned. My nose was very swollen and slightly out of place. I've dealt with this before, but that didn't make it any less painful.
"One...two...thre-" I counted before snapping the cartilage of my nose back into place. I bit my lip hard, drawing blood, to muffle my scream in an attempt to save Mike the trouble of awaking with his head wound.
I was just about to tape down the last of the medical dressing across my nose when my phone suddenly rang. I hurriedly placed the medical bandage across my nose before sliding my cheap phone out of my pocket and answering.
"Rusak speaking." I said, knowing full well who the call was from.
"You've got a job. It's your usual docking." The person on the other line responded.
"Be there in twenty." I groaned, slamming the back of my head into the wall.
Crap.
I walked over to the main building where I could get some help from an old friend, I couldn't leave Mike alone, and no way in hell was I taking him there. I don't want to expose him to all of that sh.it. I hated asking for favors, but this was important.
I ran my way up to room 207 and knocked on the door. All it took was a second before the doors swung open, revealing Aliyah or otherwise known as Ally. She had her normal attire, sweat pants and a tight fitting undershirt that was rolled up, exposing her belly button piercing. Her black hair was tied back into a messy bun. Not the intentional messy, more like the 'I just woke up' kind of messy. She was, of course in a better room than I was. She had a working heater, nice floors, overall nicer...everything.
"Hey Ally, c-can...can you please watch Mike for me? I have to got to...'work'" I said, adding air-quotes on work, still shivering from the harsh winds. This wasn't something I was proud of, neither was asking her to do this for me.
"Yeah sure, you want me to bring the kid over here? It's warmer." She said sweetly, a rare tone for her.
"Yeah, that'd be great. He's been shivering like crazy." I added to the conversation, trying to make the situation more normal, though we both knew that was impossible.
"Jesse! the kid's gonna be over," she exclaimed to her partner, earning a sound of disapproval, but disregarding it. "You, that business isn't good for ya. But since you're stuck, you've gotta hurry before you're late."
"Right," I mumbled, handing her the keys, "Thanks again!" I yelled running off to 'work'.
This was the constant cycle of my life. But I guess It was easy enough.

A/N: Hey guys! So, sorry about the '.' in the middle of all the 'bad words' it's just precaution so nothing is blocked or whatever. Another thing I'm sorry about it that Ally isn't named Alice, it autocorrected Aliyah to Alice. So yeah, sorry. I hope you enjoy this story. I'm sorry if I had you waiting too long, I just wanted to make sure the chapter had exactly what I wanted in it and I think it's ok. The story WILL BE EDITED!! So... Yeah. Also, I will have songs at the end of chapters , it may be related to the chapter, just a certain character's theme song, or simply just a random son I was listening to while writing the chapter. Thanks for reading and keep an eye out for my next chapter!
SONG: Headstrong by trapt
