Aurora stayed up so late Shey wasn't sure she new the meaning of the word "sleep". Maybe Witches absorbed moon energy or something, Shey didn't know.
"Aw shit!" the young woman shouted.
"What?" Shey asked from the bed. Aurora hunched over her desk with a mass of papers obscuring her face.
"Stupid. Magic." She grunted through gritted teeth. Shey rolled her eyes and leaned back onto the bed.
"You've got that part right." She murmured, curling up under the covers even if it was 60 degrees outside. "You spend so much time reading over those old books you haven't touched your diary." Aurora looked over at the werewolf and sighed.
"It's not like I don't have time to do any of that stuff it's just that I really need to focus on this stuff, what with all these crazy bounty hunters on our trail." She moved some of the papers back onto a bookshelf in the corner. "And not all magic is stupid!"
"Mhm," Shey nodded and turned to face the wall. "Sure." The dog lying next to her on the bed snorted and nudged her towards the other girl. Not giving it much thought, Shey reached over and patted him on the head but the dog didn't seem satisfied as he nudged her again.
"You're dog is harassing me." Shey murmured.
"His name is Ender and he wants you to move." Aurora responded flipping through the pages of a well worn book. Shey rolled over and stuck her tongue out at the dog who responded by licking her face.
Defeated, Shey got up and let the large brown dog have the bed. Instead she looked around at the vials on Aurora's wall. They were mainly red with some blue ones here and there they all had labels that kind of told Shey what they did, but things like 'brisk cranberries' and 'sparkling nothing' weren't very self explanatory.
"Whatcha making?" Shey asked the other brunette. Aurora looked up from her desk, crushed herbs lying everywhere.
"There's this spell I want to try but I don't think I have the right materials." She explained, she scooted the book closer to Shey and pointed towards a small list written in a different language. "I just don't know what this is, I can't translate it." She said.
"Maybe it's like... moon dust or something?" Shey suggested. Aurora laughed.
"Moon dust? You mean a moon rock?" Aurora raised her eyebrows and turned to face the werewolf.
"No, dust from the moon, why can't that be a thing?" Shey asked "HMMMM?" She hummed aggressivel.
"Okay first of all how would anyone be able to get to the moon and second I'm pretty sure if there was anything dust-like on the moon it would be sand or dirt." The witch commented.
"Ya But moon dirt and moon sand don't sound as cool." Shey replied. "Also how am I supposed to anything you need for magic when some of your 'potions' are labeled things like 'angry water'." Aurora laughed again.
"I don't have a potion for angry water." The witch chuckled. "But I do have potions that'll make you angry." She said, flashing a quick smirk.
"I'll pass." Shey commented and took to watching her partner work.
Aurora chopped up little plants and crushed small stones but she still let out groans of frustration. Her eyes darted between the book and the mess on the table as she poured little crystals in beakers.
The witch shot up, a glint of excitement in her eyes. She grabbed the beaker and ran over to a cauldron that had boiling water with a strange tint to it. Shey followed Aurora over and watched and she dumped the contents of the beaker into the soupy mess. The water changed from a deep brown to a warm orange, it began to shimmer and Shey couldn't help but stare at it.
"So what exactly does this do?" The werewolf asked intrigued. Aurora gave her a smile and dipped her finger into the mixture. When Aurora pulled back, her finger was coated in what looked like sap, except it glowed. She placed the sap covered finger in her mouth and Shey watched as the witches appearance changed. Aurora's eyes changed from a bright magenta to a brown, her honey brown hair became black and she grew an inch or two. The woman who replaced Aurora smiled.
"It's an elaborate disguise spell. It's allow us to go out with out drawing to much attention." Aurora dipped a different finger into the mixture and changed back once the sap was in her mouth. She smiled "pretty cool huh?" Shey huffed a response.
"Makeup would have been simpler."
