"Must I really go scuba diving here?"
"That's for losing."
"IT WAS A GAME MAX!!"
Max folded his arms and glared at his twin sister. Nikki knew she had to give in, both of them agreed with the punishment so what could she do? As she put on her goggles and stared at the filthy blue ocean beneath her, she hesitated to dive into it.
She took a deep breath and dived into the ocean filled with trash. Instead of landing into cold water, she found herself getting stuck in plastic bags. If she didn't remove them quickly, she could've drowned.
The amount of trash in there was disgusting. There were lots of peculiar things floating around. Not to mention all the trash tangled in her hair.
"They killed Tammy the turtle mom!!"
"Shh it's okay darling.."
"No! They killed my pet!!"
Nikki could hear voices from inside a cave. As a curious girl, she fought all the plastic bags to swim into the cave. Unfortunately, she accidentally hit a manta ray while trying to swim into the cave. Before she knew it, a shock travelled from her hand to the other parts of her body. She began to feel paralysed. Acting quickly, she swam into the cave as best as she could. She could feel her lungs giving in. With one strong kick, she entered the cave.
Nikki felt a sudden rush of adrenaline like things had changed. The dark cave she saw was now lit by corals. She also didn't feel paralysed anymore.
"Are you human?"
Someone's voice startled her. Right then, she saw two mermaids.
"Y-Yes.. Are you a mermaid?"
"Yes. I am the Queen of the Sea. This is my daughter, Coral."
"N-Nice to meet you your majesty. I overheard your conversation, is it true?"
"Yes, you killed her!" Coral spoke up.
"I'm sorry.. I know we killed many sea creatures. Is there anything I can do?"
The queen smiled then frowned. Realising that she was holding a golden trident, Nikki was frightened.
"There is something you could do but it's a sacrifice instead. My trident needs the power of a human soul."
"I'll do it." It didn't take long for Nikki to decide. After all, it was for the Earth. Everyone wouldn't be happy if they saw the ocean in its current condition.
The queen said thank you before she did her job. Nikki could feel her whole body vanishing. With a smile, she waved goodbye. The queen, however, showed a determined expression as she surfaced. With the trident poking up, she moved it in circular motions. Slowly, the trash from every part of the ocean gathered up in a huge ball.
Max was watching as the trash clumped together. He wondered where his sister could've gone to but now, he knew.
With one touch of the trident, the ball of trash vanished. The queen, and Coral, went back to their palace after.
"THANK YOU!!!" Max shouted before returning back home with a hurt smile.
