Synchronicity - Merluca One Shot

Synchronicity

Not long after stepping out of a surgery with Meredith, Deluca finds himself in an OR with her and ever though he is just helping on the side Andrew is always very happy to assist her. After work Mer is talking on her phone on the parking lot when Deluca sees her seconds before he gets on his Davison bike. She looks very upset and he goes to to check on her.
-Are you okey doctor Grey?
-No, yes, I don't know. I need someone to watch my kids and my sisters and Alex have second shift and my babysitter...
-Wait wait. What happened?
-My father just called me and ..and I think he is dying, maybe, and I don't know what to do... and I don't have a person..
-Give me your keys.
-What? Why?
-Just give me your keys. I am your person tonight and your kids already know me. You go.
-Are you sure? I mean, you don't have to do it. I know I am your boss and you might feel...
-Yes, but you are also a human being and you need help. Let me help you.
She looks at him for a few seconds and takes her spare key of her chain and gives it to him.
-They are not home yet and you have to pick them up from school in a half an hour. Wait up for Zola and she knows where the daycare is, she will show you.
-Okay. Now go!
Meredith turns to her car and unlocks the door.
-Deluca, thank you!
He smiles and gets on his bike and drives to her house. On the way there he picks up some stuff from the market. He leaves the market bag at Merediths and calls a taxi to pick her kids from school.
An hour later we see them in the kitchen making European pancakes and laughing.
-I know you are used to American pancakes but I though I make something different for you guys. Do you like them?
They all nod repeatedly while stuffing their mouths. Andrew has the situation under control and they even seem to enjoy his company. After a while, he makes them go to bed. He reads them a story as they fall asleep and he nods off on the chair in a sitting position with a book and a pillow in his arms.
Meredith comes back home and unlocks the door. She searches for Deluca and her kids and notices the pancakes in the kitchen. She climbs the stairs and sees Deluca sleeping.
-Hey (she wispers and wakes him up) Come. You can't sleep like this.
Still confused he looks at her and then gets up and goes in the hall with her. She starts going down the stairs so that they don't wake up the kids and starts crying.
-Damn it. I am sorry, I am so sorry.
-No, he didn't die. I though he was dying but he didn't. I just had a really good talk with him and..
-Well that's good. Then.. why are you crying?
-Because he has never been there for me and, and I kinda imagined him dying a hundred times in my head. All different kinds of deaths and my variety of reactions and I was so prepared that I even started hoping for a tragedy to happen tonight. I know. I am an awful person.
-No, that's normal. We all do that in our heads. It's the only way we prepare to face the real challenges in life. It's irrational and stupid and maybe selfish but we do it anyway.
She laughs.
-So you also imagine dead people on a regular basis? Thank you for tonight.
He smiles.
-I made pancakes. Pancakes are great food for drowning your sorrows.
-Pancakes with... cherry votka? (she raises her eyebrows playfully) Unless, I am sorry, I don't know if I am out of the line and I am probably making you uncomfortable?
-Your youngest threw up on me two hours ago. I think we are pass that.
-Oh, I am so sorry. Come on, let me buy you a drink.
They laugh and take the food and the cherry votka bottle with them in the living room where they sit on the ground. After a couple of shots the sugar they decide they are gonna watch one of Meredith's mom surgeries over and over again while they practice the stitching together on a banana. They fall asleep on the ground tired of talking and laughing all night.

Owen drops Amelia off by Meredith's house to take some clothes she needs and she walks in on Meredith and Andrew sleeping of the floor next to each other.
-You go girl. (she says more to herself and decides to take the children to school and daycare quietly).
She leaves a note on the door saying ,,I took your car to take the kids to school. Had a good night? -Amelia)

Andrew wakes up before Meredith and goes to the bathroom to get ready for work. He sees the note from Amelia and smirks. He wakes up Meredith and says:
-Good morning. I am preparing us some hang over shots so that we can wake up and function today. You go and take a fast shower because we need to get to work.
Meredith is confused and her head hurts, but she gets herself up and goes to the bathroom. She sees Amalia's message and takes it with her.
Ten minutes after that she walks in the kitchen and sees Andrew has made three shots in the tequila glasses.
-One, water and aspirin. (he pushes the glass towards her and they both take the first shot)
Second, lemon and olive oil for digestion and burning fats and sugar... And three, strong Italian espresso so that we don't fall asleep during surgeries today.
-Woah. (her whole body shakes and she laughs) You are probably the best person to have a hang over with.
-Now come on, I have one more thing for you.
-And that is?
He pushes her with his hand on her back to the front door and shows her his bike. She remembers how mesmerized she was when he arrived at the hospital with it the other day and laughs.
-I am not climbing on that thing. Have you seen how cold it is today? I am gonna freeze.
-No, no. Take this jacket and just trust me. You are gonna feel great.
They lock the door, walk to the Harley and put their helmets on. He gets on his bike and after fidgeting a little Meredith decides she is gonna go for it. She feels little uncomfortable not knowing where to put her hands but after a while her fingers feel to cold and as he sees them being red and frozen he tells her to put them under his jacket.
-No, I am fine. Don't worry.
-I have gloves and you need your hands warm. You need to be able to do surgery today, right?
-Alright. (she listens to him and nods)
When they arrive Bailey sees them getting off Deluca's bike and smiles.
-Now look at that. I haven't seen her smile like that a long time.

Somewhere around noon Meredith patient collapses and she knows she needs to do a particular surgery she hasn't done so far. Owen tells her that he can assist her but she specifically asks for Deluca on her service.
-You know he is only a resident right?
-Don't be cinical. Of course I know. Just call him please.

Deluca and Meredith scrub their hands before going into surgery and she tells him that they need to do the surgery they watched the night before.
-Woah. That's a creepy coincidence.
-Yeah, and scary. I haven't done one of these and there are people gathering in the auditorium to see it. I need you to do it with me. You are the only one that has seen it and practised the stitching with me.
-It's okay. We can do this.

They both enter the OR and there are Bailey, Richard, Owen, Jo, Link and couple of others watching them. They look at eachother and start the procedure. Meredith and Andrew look like a well oiled machine. Their hands are synchronized and they go three hours without saying a word. Everyone is stunned by what is happening on the table and when they come to the part where they need to close the body - it feels like they are doing a dance.
Everyone is applauding as they try to calm and look at eachother eyes. Right after scrubbing again they go out in the hall and Andrew takes Meredith's hand, and pulls her to a storage room.
Without saying a word they start kissing.
