Live ‘Till I Die

“Give me back my toys!”

“Hmpf. I don’t want! Reach it if you can!”

            Tsk tsk, they’re fighting again?! Their noise can be heard down here. I wonder what they are doing upstairs. “Mom can I go upstairs and see what those kids are up to now? They are so noisy.” I asked my mom who was preparing our snacks in the kitchen. “Sure thing honey, packing these foods would still take a while.” So I went up their room and saw them quarreling over a toy. “Hey little bro, you’re fighting about that again?” I asked my younger brother. “Ate he doesn’t want me to play with my toys” said my friend’s sister. They always fight when they’re together but I know they are the best of friends. “Since we won’t be going out if mom doesn’t finish preparing yet, I’ll tell you a story about valuing friendship”

            One day there were two lovely girls playing games and dolls. They both loved each other for they were the best of friends. But a pity that as they grew up they slowly drifted apart. In high school, where social status matters most, is also the place where the two best friends became strangers. Venus was the richer kid, beautiful, talented and popular in their school while Cyril is only a wallflower. Cyril is also beautiful but only a few people can see her real beauty behind her messy hair and glasses. She is honest, kind and friendly but sadly she doesn’t have friends in her school because people say she isn’t ‘good’ enough.

Cyril does her best in her studies and classmates, she also doesn’t easily get angry at her classmates when they aren’t listening to her instructions during group works and projects and her reason for that is ‘someday I won’t be in their lives anymore because as we graduate I don’t want them to see me as a person who did something awful to them'

            During the middle of the school year, Cyril was frequently absent in their school, which she rarely does even if she seems sick. This brought her classmates to think that maybe she moved or stopped school either way her classmates doesn’t seem to really care.

            All those time, she was actually staying in a hospital for a month. She may not have friends in school but she misses her classmates, teachers and most of all her best friend.

One morning, the doctor came inside her room and beside him; tears were forming in her parent’s eyes. She was stunned yet at the same time confused, she didn’t think her illness would be at its worst. “I’m sorry Cyril” the doctor said “There is nothing much we can do in your condition, unless we can find a heart donor. If not, I’m afraid you only have less than a month” and with that, the doctor left the room leaving them to first comprehend her current situation.

            Cyril felt like a living dead. She was alive yet dying at the same time. She lost all hope in thinking that she still might have a chance until she met a person that made her realize that she was luckier than those people who died in a much unexpected situation, her name was Angel. They met each other in the lounge meant for sick people to experience a little entertainment. Like her, Angel also suffers from a heart failure. Angel was older than her, she was about to graduate as the top of her class in college but due to her illness, she wasn’t able to attend their graduation march and clearance signing.
