My knees buckled. The next thing i knew my face was planted into the dirt like the growing trees..
My heart was pounding.
Whats happening to me?
Not even 30 seconds ago i was running the usual course..or was I?
Now look at me...even more pathetic than usual, curled up clutching my chest, gasping for even a sliver of air..
No. I remember now, i had made a wrong turn half way through my second lap. The air had gotten colder, and the wind had stopped. The sun was covered by the trees, but it wasn't dark. How stupid of me! My first cross country meet and here i was, on the ground, with no strength or breath to get up.
Then I felt it....the blood ripping pain through my neck, upper, and mid back. I must have screamed, cause all of a sudden I'm waking up in a hospital?
I heard it first....the beeping of the monitor. Why am i hooked up to a machine? I opened my eyes, there was no one in the room. I searched blindly at my side for the button that called for someone. No luck.
"Hello?!?" I shouted. About a minute went by before I heard foot steps.
A short, plump woman who looked to be in her early fifties walked in the door.
"Ahhhh good, you've awaken. Let me go get your mother deary." And with that she was gone.
My mother; average size, long brown hair with hazel eyes, comes bursting through the door.
"Audy, hey.."she says my nickname in a soft voice, like her usual calm self. "You doing alright?"
"Yeah..i think..." i could breathe again, that was a relief. And my chest didn't feel like an elephant herd had trampled all over it.. "W..What happened?" I asked, scared of her reply..
"The doctors say you had an asthma attack. You weren't breathing.." she said glancing down in confusion..
"Mom I don't have asthma.." now i was confused..
"I know hun, but they said these things can come at anytime of your life..." she explained while smoothing my long burnt wood colored hair out of my face.
"What about my back?? Why is it in so much.." i finally took in my senses.."...pain." The pain was gone..
"What are you talking about? Your back is fine. Maybe you just felt the attack all the way through...the doctors said it was a strong one for your first."
"Alright.." i played along, because obviously it was NOT an asthma attack. But i seem to be the only one who gets that.. "How long have i been here? Can I leave now?" The faster i get out of this place the faster i can figure out what the heck was going on.
Now back at home, after what seemed like hours, i was able to do a once over of my back.
"What the.." since when did i have scares on my back?
"HEY MOM?" i called from the bathroom..
"YES dear."
But before i could ask, i saw something in the mirror. Either i went to a party and don't remember a single trace of it, or....no there's no other explanation because i DEFINITELY have never gotten a tattoo smack dab in the middle of my back.
But i don't drink! OR party!
I quickly put my shirt on as my mom stampedes the door.
