"Were we good babies? Did she sing to us or rock us in a rocking chair? Tell us stories, was she happy about being a mom?" Katia asked. "Or was she worried and scared?"

Janice smiled. "You were good babies. You hardly fussed. She did have a difficult time giving birth. One of you was turned and the cord was wrapped around your neck, Kaia."

"Probably why she's such a pain in the ass," Frankie said.

Kaia looked up. "Just like the twins," she said in a quiet voice. She could hardly believe this was happening. She looked down at the picture in her hands again. It was Summer standing on the beach with her arms outstretched and she was smiling with the ocean behind her.  "Where is this at?"

Janice looked. "On Venice Beach."

Kaia couldn't help but gasp. She stood up. "I...I need a minute," she said and still held onto the picture. "I'm sorry," she said and stepped out onto the back patio again. Her heart was racing.

"I know this is a lot to take in and I'm sorry," Janice said to Katia.

Katia walked over to Janice. "Don't worry, mom,"  she hugged her tightly "It must have been very difficult losing your sister and being saddled with two babies."

"Why did you give me up?" She needed to ask, she always wondered.

Janice looked at Frankie who merely shook his head and walked out of the room.

She looked back at Katia and held her hand. "Those days were rough and...because your father wasn't willing to acknowledge the two of you. Things were tight and the sc...the scams that we did, didn't always go according to plan. Frankie...he said I had to give one of you up," she said sadly. "I didn't want to give either one of you up. We...we flipped a coin." She said now ashamed.

Kaia stood in the sunshine and looked at the picture of her mother again. She wished Zayn was there to hold her. This was all so much to take in.  Her mind was on overload and she felt a great sense of loss for a woman that she didn't even know.

"I understand, it must have been hard." She blinked back her tears. "I don't blame you, but I do wish I was the one you kept," she admitted.  "Not my sister."

"I wish we could've kept the both of you," Janice said. "After a few years even keeping Kaia was too much."

"I bet it was a really hard decision," Katia said.  "I'm sorry that Kaia blames you for giving her up. It couldn't have been an easy decision for anyone to make. The thought of having kids scares the crap out of me."

Kaia came back inside and sat down next to her sister.

"By the time we..we left you in the hospital, Kaia, our drug use was so out of control and..and I knew you weren't in a safe place. " Janice said sadly. "It was my decision to do that. Frankie..." she said and looked nervously around. "He wanted to find ways to exploit you for money but I told him no."

Kaia swallowed hard. Maybe she had misjudged at least Janice. "May I keep this picture?"

"Yes, of course," she said. "You can keep any of them you like. I have..albums we can look at as well. And I also have some home movies of your mother," she continued on. "But...but we can do that some other time. I know these aren't easy things to hear."

Katia looked over at her sister her twin.  "Kaia come give mom a hug. We all need a big family hug," she said giving her sister a look

"Should we call you Janice now? Auntie? Or can we still call you Mom?" Katia wondered.  "Come on Kaia, Janice wanted to give you your best chance at life."
