No One Would Blink

I lay in the sun

My skin warms with happiness

This is what life should be

Lounging in the sunlight

Toes in the frigid river water

A slight breeze to keep you cool

And listening to a loved one talk

(I'm sorry I haven't visited)

It's okay

I want to tell him that it's okay

Whoever it is

He sounds kind

He sounds like he knows me

His voice comforts me

Maybe I'm just crazy

If I am, so be it

At least I'm not alone anymore

I hear a branch crack behind me

I turn and see the shadow man

He saunters towards me

(I love you so much Annie)

The shadow man is the one speaking

He sits next to me

Mimics how I'm sitting

We lay there

I don't understand anything that's happening

But that's okay

I'm finally happy

We lay there until the sun goes down

Never speaking

And then he disappears into the night

I have a feeling I'll see him again

I lay in the darkness

And I smile to myself

Happiness is a wonderful feeling
