"Hi. Levi," I say nervously, "How'd you get in? Why are you here?"

"I'm here for Kate's wedding. Connor invited me," he says, rubbing his neck (a nervous habit I noticed while we were dating).

"Well," I say. I try to gather as much courage as I can for this next sentence. I lift my chin high, so I seem brave, "his invitation to you is not accepted. And I'd prefer if you leave me alone for the rest of the evening. And while you're here. Goodnight."

Wow, Tara. You actually made a good comeback.

Well, it was better than leave-i.

I jog back up the stairs, but before I open my door, a warm hand wraps around my wrist. It would almost feel comforting if it wasn't from the fact that the hand was from my cheating ex-boyfriend.

"Tara? I know I was an ass when we were kids, but I swear, I've grown up. I'm so sorry I put you through all that shit, I know I hurt you. I know you never want to talk to me again. I know you want me to die in the pits of hell-"

"No shit," I add.

"but, I'm truly sorry. I never wanted to hurt you. I swear."

I yank my wrist away from and close my door.

"Goodnight Levi."

All I could hear before I got ready for bed was a faint, "Goodnight Tara. Sweet dreams."

After I changed for bed last night, I went straight to sleep. Today's a big day. It's Kate's wedding, and I'm still going no matter what.

My alarm clock went off at 10:00. 3 hours before the wedding. My dress is hanging up in my closet, but I don't want to ruin it before the ceremony, so I ignore it and walk downstairs to the kitchen.

Levi's there.

Why is he always in my way.

He's sitting at the table with today's newspaper and a cup of coffee. Just like my dad used to do.

I recall a time when he'd wake up before anyone else, so he'd make a cup of black coffee and sit down at the kitchen table and read a newspaper, occasionally doing the crossword.

"Good morning, Tara," Levi says, not looking up from the paper.

"Morning," I say in a monotone morning voice.

I grab a glass from the cabnet and the orange juice from the fridge. The jug empties, so I throw it away.

As I'm sipping my juice, there's an awkard silence that falls between us. You could practically cut it with a knife.

Thankfully neither of us said anything else, and I walked away. I wouldn't expect Mom, Kate, Grandmama, or Connor to be around. They'd all probably be at the barn getting last minute things done or whatever, but I saw my Grandmama getting ready to knock on my door.

"There you are Tara. I was getting to ready to wake you up. You need to be getting ready for the wedding," she says.

"Are you sure? Kate didn't seem like she wanted me to go last time I checked," I say looking down to my feet, "she looked pretty upset about the whole ring fiasco."

"Nonsense!" Grandmama whisper yells, "You're going to be Kate's maid of honor whether she likes it or not! Now go get ready!" She sends a slight push into my stomach, making me slide into my room.

I wish a was a constant rule breaker and wouldn't have felt guilty if I passed on Grandmama's advice, but you know me! Good ole goody two shoes. I grab my dress and some clean underwear and head for the shower. I try to rush everything, causing me to cut my legs a couple times with my razor. I exit the shower in about 10 minutes.

I knew my shower would take the longest, so that's why I wanted to get out quickly so I could focus on my hair. Which still isn't cut by the way, so it reached my hips, making it even harder to curl.

I slipped on my underwear and bra, and I'm now starting on my hair. I still have 2 hours and 30 minutes to do my hair and makeup. I decided to leave my dress on the bed so it wouldn't get makeup or hairspray on it.

I take a piece a piece of hair and wrap it around the curling wand I possessed in my hand. So far I've only done about the bottom half of my head.

This is going to be a long day.

I've finished my hair, which now reached my mid back, and I've started on my makeup. Since this is an outdoor wedding, I wanted to keep it simple. So I only put on foundation, concealer, powder, mascara, and I put on a light brown eye shadow across the crease and edge of my eye.

I put all my supplies back in my bag and brushed my teeth. I then put on some medium pink lipstick that complemented my semi-pale skin. I check my lips, making sure there were no smudges or pink stains on my teeth, and then proceed to putting on my dress. Only, I didn't necessarily get to put it on before Levi entered my room.

We both freeze.

I could've sworn I locked the door. How did he get in?

He looks me up and down, only slightly noticeable.

"Get out!" I scream.

"Nothing I've never seen before," he says cockily.

"You've never seen me in my underwear and bra!" I was no frantically trying to put the dress on.

"That's what you think," he exits.

Only before I hear a loud tear in the fabric.
