Chapter 1

Amelia Sanders had never been so scared in her life. As she sat in her hospital bed waiting for her nurses to arrive and cart her off to surgery. The small part of her brain that said today was her last day fueled her to call her older brother Sam.

“Hello?” His voice had changed over the years and caused tears to rise in her eyes.

“Hey Sam..it’s Amelia.” The audible gasp on the other end of the line caused her to sniffle. Did he want to talk to her after all this time? Three years ago before Sam left for college Amelia had walked in on him doing drugs. The first thing that she did was rat him out to their parents who then kicked him out. She hadn’t talked to him since that day, but had regretted everything she had done, from the names she had called him to the moment she said she couldn’t love him.

“A-Amelia?” His voice was shaky as he recalled the memories of long tortuous nights without his family.

I’m sorry Sam” She sobbed into the phone covering her face with her hands.

“Its okay Amelia! You did nothing wrong it was me. I shouldn’t have been doing what I was doing. I’m so sorry!” Sam said his voice just as broken as Amelia’s.

“Oh Sam!” Amelia’s sobs could be heard from the hallway where her nurse hid behind the door letting the young girl have a moment to herself before she was dragged away to surgery.

“When can I see you Melly?” He asked the eagerness clear in his voice.

“That’s why I’m calling Sam. I don’t know if we will see eachother again.” Her voice was somber as she ran a hand over her newly shaven head.

“Why!? What is going on Melly!” Sam’s voice became panicked at the thought of his sister in danger.

“I have cancer. I have a tumour in my brain. I’m about to go into surgery. The doctor said that my chances of survival is slim. Even if they can remove the tumour doesn’t mean it won’t come back.” Tears streamed down Amelia’s face as she thought about what she was going to face. A thousand miles away her brother’s room mates watched as the tough Sam Sanders broke down.

“Why didn’t you call earlier!? I could have flown down to see you, I could be there with you right now.”

“I didn’t think you would want to talk to me after what happened. I called to apologize because this may be my last chance. I love you Sam, but I have to go now.” With that Amelia hung up not able to stand one more second of hearing his heart broken voice. It was the right decision, she thought to herself. With that the nurse made her way into the room announcing it was time to go. With a deep breathe Amelia nodded.

Hollywood, California [Lina Woodrow]

Lina Woodrow tossed her golden hair over her shoulders. A pair of huge black sunglasses graced her perfect face as she listened to her friends gossip. The famous actress could not believe her ears as she listened to her best friend Kelly talk about a video that went viral over night.

“The poor girl is sixteen and has cancer. She talked about how she was scared and was like still a normal girl.” Kelly said in a really high pitched voice.

“She has cancer? Poor thing!” Quinn gasped fanning herself with her perfectly manicured fingers.

“Yeah and this totally hot guy from Kansas or something shaved his head for her. He hasn’t even met her!” Kelly said practically screeching in disgust. Lina could not believe her friends could be so heartless.
