A month before 8th grade is when I started T. I had convinced my mom to let my get top surgery and I had it done a week before school let out which means I missed a lot of days. But through out the rest of the summer I got my hair cut, my voice got deeper, and I started to grow lots more hair. I looked complete different, or so I thought. A week before school started I had to take a new picture for my school ID and make sure they knew that they changed my name to Max. On the first day I was deathly afraid of running into my friends from 8th grade. Then I thought what's the possibility of that happening? Well guess what it did. All of my classes where with Avery, Sky, Maddie, and lots of other people that knew me when I was a girl. My seat was also right next to them....
"Time for role," the teacher exclaimed happily. I took my seat and tried to avoid people gaze. The teacher, Mrs.Wilson, called the names of everyone and finally "Max W?" She said making sure not to say my last name.
"Here," I said shyly. I felt someone tap my shoulder lightly. It way Maddie " You look a lot like my friend Mackenzie are you related to her?" She asked looking me up and down. Right then is when my stomach dropped to the floor.
"Yeah you look a lot like her and I haven't seen her since the second to last week of school," Sky said joining the conversation. " I..I don't know her," I stuttered pushing my bangs from out of my eyes. " Are you sure?" Maddie asked again. I was sweating like crazy now, just as I was about to answer I heard a voice.
" Guys leave him alone if he doesn't know who Mackenzie is he doesn't know," Avery said said smiling at me. "Max, right?" She asked. "Yeah," I answered quietly push the hair out of my eyes and giving her a slight smile. We had a slight conversation about summer and what we did. I mostly just listened like normal. " So Max wanna sit with us at lunch?" Maddie asked. "Sure, why not," I told them starting on my work. I heard the door swing open and I looked up.
"Sorry I was late," I heard an all to familiar voice say. Now I knew why the only empty desk was next to me. Cayleigh came and sat next to me....ME!!! " Who are you?" She asked rudely. "Max," I told her not looking up. "Look at me Max," she said grabbing my chin and pulling it up. " You know your pretty cute and familiar," she said eyeing me. She pushed my bangs out of my eyes again and smiled at me. "Not this again," I thought. I looked down and got to work again. Then I felt a hand on my thigh. I flinch and remove it. But she just puts it back on and keeps getting closer to my crotch. I look up to see Avery looking over confused at my worried expression.
"Don't touch him," I heard a voice behind me say. I look up and smile at Brayden, the only person I told I was trans. "Come sit over here," he said motioning to a big group sitting by the window. " Guys," he said, " this is Max," I wave smiling a little. Brayden knows I know everyone here and is just a great friend. " Ok, so this is Emily, Rayliegh, Mia, Lexis, Maggie, and as you already met Sky, Maddie, and Avery," he said motioning to everyone. I sat and started to "get to know everyone". We sat talking right up until lunch. Maybe this year won't be that bad. Boy was I wrong......
