"Three cheers for the birthday boy!" Harries yelled as all the lifeguards on the service were gathered at the Bucket List for Jake's birthday. The lifeguards cheered him on as several of them took sips of the beers they were holding onto, as for me, I sat in the back with my good friend Nicola. Nicola was drinking, but I was just watching on.
"You know you not drinking is really making me feel lonely," Nicola sighed as she finished off her beer, I chuckled because she knew I wasn't much of a drinker. In fact I wasn't really one to go out like this at all, I'd much rather be on the beach or hanging with my friends. Well the only friend I really have is Nicola, so technically I guess that's what I'm doing.
"And you drinking is making me feel lonely," I retorted, Nicola rolled her eyes and smirked as she shifted her sight towards Jake. We watched as the boys sat beside him, they all shared drunk filled laughs here and there. Thinking back a couple years ago I never really expected myself to be in this position, I'm really glad that everything turned out the way it did because if not I wouldn't have met all these amazing people.
"You know, you and jake would make a cute couple," Nicola blurted out, throughout all the noise none of the others heard her, thankfully. I glared daggers through her, but she couldn't help but smile, "I'm serious, you may not see it but I think he likes you Y/N."
"And what makes you think that, Mrs.Love Expert?" I asked, she leaned in closer to me and all I could smell was her reeking of beer, she was beyond wasted at this point but I'll entertain the idea of Jake 'liking' me because I'll admit I developed a tiny crush on him since we started working together.
She licked her lips and explained, "the way he looks at you when you're at work, he's like mentally undressing you-" I slapped her arm and stopped her from speaking.
"Nicola!" I shouted, I quieted myself when I caught the attention of people, "you are absolutely crazy! I think I need to take you home, or to the bottom of a pool, just anywhere but here." I stood up grabbing her arm, I guided to her to where Jake was sitting so that we could say our goodbyes and Happy Birthday one more time, but this proved to be harder than expected.
"Y/N heading off early as usual I see?" Maxi commented as I walked up to the table with Nicola by my side. I really could care less what the guys say about me because I know they're joking, but I do like to get under their skin too every once and a while.
"Getting drunk and becoming unbearable to be around I see, Maxi?" I responded, the guys chuckled and Maxi lowered his head annoyed but he'd soon forget about all of this once he had another drink, "but yes I'm taking Nicola home, I can't bare the idea of her publicly humiliating herself because I left her alone."
"Y/N always being a great friend, isn't that right, Jake?" Harrison nudged Jake with his elbow, for a faint second Jake's cheeks had somewhat of a rosy tint, almost as if he was blushing. I chose to ignore it because everyone was somewhat red from the hot and musty bar, another reason why I choose not to drink and stay home. "Say Y/N you can take me home next!" Harrison added.
Nicola decided this was the best time to chime in, "if she's going to be taking anyone home it's going to be Ja-" immediately I covered her mouth and ushered her to the door.
"It's going to be you," I finished, "sorry I'd really love to stay longer but you know how Nicola handles her alcohol, she doesn't, so I better get her home! Happy Birthday again Jake, we'll see you guys later."
I looked back once more and saw them all waving, including Jake, "thank for coming Y/N, it meant a lot!"
